Description

Reporting to the CFO, the Accountant helps to ensure that various financial programs and processes function efficiently and produce financial information that is timely and accurate. The Accountant provides leadership and support for the finance-related functions of our Customer Relationship Management software; accounting operations of the Jewish Community Center; and other programs and projects. The Accountant is skilled at training and supporting employees who do not have accounting backgrounds and is able to communicate in various ways with a variety of internal and external contacts.


Essential Functions

  • Serve as subject matter expert for the accounting/finance module and related processes within The J’s Customer Relationship Management software. This includes managing the financial aspects of creating programs and associated registration/fee functions; processing transfers and refunds; reviewing unpaid invoices; creating reports and more.
  • Coordinate Accounting Operations for the Jewish Community Campus, which is managed by The J. This includes approving PO’s; reviewing reimbursement reports, assisting with monthly close process; distributing financial reports; and preparing bank reconciliations. It also includes assisting with budget and audit preparation.
  • Assists with budget and audit preparation.
  • Coordinate The J’s Financial Assistance program, which includes assisting and communicating with applicants; preparing materials for committee review; and managing program data.
  • Provide additional support within the accounting team. This includes approving purchase orders to ensure accuracy of account coding, performing various reconciliations, serving as back-up to team members, and assisting with other projects as requested.
  • Serve as a resource for various software products and systems that manage room scheduling, access control, the phone system, purchase orders, and accounting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of accounting experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to analytically solve complex problems
  • Experience handling multiple tasks at once, including the ability to prioritize work efficiently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate, supervise and lead others 
  • Ability to quickly adapt and master new software
  • Record of progressive responsibilities in similar role
  • Model professionalism in work ethic and attitude to Accounting team and staff members
  • Active communicator with CFO

Physical Requirements

This position primarily works in an indoor, office, desk environment. The job involves constant sitting (though standing up as desired is also an option), repetitive motions and hand/eye coordination to operate computer, mouse, keyboard or similar equipment for data entry and related daily work. Also includes frequent talking and hearing to communicate ideas with coworkers, especially when training others on the use of the CRM or other systems.
