BSW Internship, Jewish Family Service of San Diego

Position:  Bachelor of Social Work Internship

Description:  Jewish Family Service is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, and compassionate individual to work with clients to enhance their life skills, coping strategies, and interpersonal relationships. The Social Work Intern will receive in-depth training on assessment, treatment planning and intervention. Interns will receive individual supervision weekly.

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of an BSW or MSW

• Comfort working with diverse populations: ethnicity, race, culture, and socioeconomic status
• Current enrollment in good standing in the BSW program
• Ability to work independently, while knowing when to access assistance
• Ability to manage and address quickly changing priorities
• Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and engage actively in the learning process
• Strong skills in organization, time management, writing, speaking, and being detail oriented
• Understanding of the NASW 6 core values of social work, obligations of being a mandated reporter, HIPPA, BBS CA Law and Ethics, and JFS policies
• Application of BSW course work to internship supervisor and JFS colleagues
• Upon acceptance ability to pass a background check
• Have reliable transportation to and from other JFS locations or client home visits
• Attend weekly individual and/or group supervision

Required Qualifications:

• Enrolled in 2nd year of accredited Bachelor of Social Work program
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Creative in solving problems and meeting challenges
• Basic understanding of social, psychological, medical, economic, and legal factors that affect behavior
• Ability to work as a member of interdisciplinary team
• Strong analytical skills
