Overview
Founded in 1890, the Trager Family Jewish Community Center is a non-profit community service agency committed to enhancing the quality of family life and promoting physical, intellectual and spiritual wellness. It provides health related activities, cultural and educational programs that serve the entire community, including populations at risk. Membership and services at the J are offered to the entire community. The J offers sports and wellness, youth and camping, Jewish culture and performing arts, early childhood and senior programs and a community center open to all.
Job Skills / Requirements
To further the mission of the camp through the direct supervision of Camp Counselors within the assigned camp groups. The Supervisor is directly responsible for the health, welfare and happiness of each camper and staff in their respective groups. The Supervisor must instruct, and motivate employees; demonstrate sensitivity to the age group of campers served; understand appropriate positive behavioral management techniques; knowledge of several activity skill areas; and communicate with campers and staff in emergencies.
Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety procedures during camp programs
- Assist in the implementation of staff training
- Provide guidelines for utilizing camp equipment
- Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures at all times
Supervise and evaluate Camp Counselors to develop and implement all facets of camp program activities
- Regularly monitor work of counselors
- Gather and monitor program supplies
- Provide feedback and guidance to counselors, assisting to facilitate as needed
- Provide recommendations and concerns to assistant camp director and camp director regarding counselors’ performance
- Evaluate each counselor's performance mid-point and at the conclusion of each session; in writing per camp policy
Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior
- Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures
- Set a good example to campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship
Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members
- Provide parents appropriate feedback and information as needed for their campers to have a successful camp experience
- Communicate with parents by phone and through notes sent home and weekly emails, throughout the summer, as directed by camp communications policy
- Follow safety and security protocols when campers are in public while presenting a positive image of the camp
Physical Requirements:
- Stand for up to 45 minutes at a time
- Stand/swim in up to 4 feet of water to supervise campers
- Supervise campers in a hot environment - up to 99 degree heat index
Education Requirements (Any)
Some college preferred
Experience working with children, grades K-5
Additional Information / Benefits

- Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with all camp staff
- Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, providing support and guidance to those assigned as leaders
- Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions
- Provide ongoing program ideas to counseling and activity area staff
- Design and assist in the implementation of special programs for counseling staff use at special program times (i.e. rain, cancellations, emergencies, etc.)
- Participate in Ruach and encourage staff and campers to do the same. Sing, chant and lead new games
- Distribute Snack at Morning Meeting
- Director on Duty for Overnights and Late Nights
- Supervisor on Duty at swim times
- Assist with bringing late campers from drop off location to groups
- Assist Counselors with Behavior Management
- Manage Overnight RSVP/Field Trip Attendance Process
- Distribution of Medication/Lunch Bags/Clipboards
- Prepare Clipboards with Programs, Attendance Sheets, Carpool Stickers, etc… in the afternoon for the next morning
- Assist counseling staff with special needs and assist in solving special problems regarding their campers and co-workers
- Work with the Yachad Director, Program Director, Camp Director, and Assistant Camp Director(s) and staff to provide a rewarding inclusive program for all campers
- Support, uphold and enforce all camp policies

Education Requirements (Any)
High school diploma. Experience working with children, grades K-8.
Benefits
Summer availability (May 27th - August 1st), full time and part time available, Monday - Friday 8:15am-4:30pm (some availability at 8:00am and until 5:30pm). Enjoy working with children ages 5-15, incredibly patient, energetic and active!
