Position Type: Full-Time (40+ hours/week), Non-Exempt  

Work Setting: Onsite

Reports To: Director, Shelter Operations

Pay Range: $19-$22/hour

Position Overview: 

The Commercial Driver is an integral part of the shelter operations team. The Driver will transport shelter guests to and from transportation hubs, medical appointments, intake appointments, and shelter locations with a (12 - 15 Passenger Van).  The position requires exemplary customer service to guests and staff. We are looking for a team player with a great attitude, excellent customer service skills, effective communication skills, and efficient decision-making skills.

Responsibilities:  

  • Provide safe and timely rides for shelter guests and staff using excellent customer service
  • Primary driver to transport shelter guests to and from transportation hubs, medical appointments, intake appointments
  • Pick up employees and transport them safely and timely from the staff parking lot to the designated shelter location as requested
  • Obey all traffic rules and regulations guiding the operation of company vehicles
  • Provide accurate time and rider records of the vehicles coming and goings
  • Report any accidents, injuries, and vehicle damage to the Manager or Site Coordinator immediately
  • Perform daily pre/post vehicle inspections
  • Must keep the shuttle in good working condition
  • Report any shuttle concerns to Assistant Director of Safety and Facilities
  • Rider concerns to Manager or Site Coordinator immediately
  • Maintain a neat and clean shuttle. Disinfect daily. Vacuum and wash as needed
  • Keep the shuttle fueled and ready for operation
  • Drivers must follow all safety standards
  • Be courteous and respectful of staff and clients at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:

  • Valid Commercial Drivers license (Class B or C with Passenger Endorsement)
  • Clean DMV record and reliable transportation
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Haitian Creole
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED
  • 2 years related transportation services
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug test
  • This position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with DOT regulations
  • Basic computer skills; able to navigate and utilize Microsoft Word and Outlook 360
  • Basic smart phone, and GPS skills
  • Ability to utilize both paper routing information and GPS
  • Ability to calculate daily mileage and record transit activity
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Must be at least 21 years of age

    Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have:

    • Current CPR / First Aid certification; a plus
