We are looking for a Cook to join our team! The ideal candidate is someone who has 2 years of cooking experience and knowledgeable of Kosher procedure.  


 


Job description:


As a cook you will be responsible for the preparation of nutritious, attractive, and tasty food items within the guidelines set forth by the department. Must know various cooking practices, which relate to the Kosher production of foods.


 


Key Responsibilities:



  • Review menus and daily production assignments with the Executive Chef.

  • Assist in the production of breakfast, lunch and supper meals as well as assisting in catered functions and holiday meals.

  • Maintain proper sanitation standards in work area.

  • Assist in re-stocking food items and assist in plate presentation as needed.

  • Maintain daily production records and counts.

  • Report production concerns or problems to the Sous Chef or Executive Chef.

  • Maintain proper food handling procedures and techniques.

  • Ensure proper food temperatures and follows all HACCP guidelines and procedures.

  • Maintains thorough knowledge of Kashrut procedures.

  • Properly greets all members and guests.

  • Addresses residents in a polite and respective manner.

  • Communicates effectively with all levels of staff and residents on a professional level. Possesses excellent listening and verbal skills.

  • Develops good relationships with the resident population.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


 


 


Qualifications

Qualifications:



  • Have a minimum of 2 years cooking experience, with a Kosher background preferred.

  • Knowledge of sanitation, food borne illness, and cross-contamination policies and procedures.

  • Have a complete and through understanding of all Kashrut procedures.

  • Ability to complete work in a timely manner and meet all deadlines.

  • Ability to relate appropriately with staff, members and families and have a positive customer service approach to meeting various needs.

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in an effective manner.

  • Ability to answer phone calls and communicate requests as needed.


 


Working Conditions:



  • Stands for long periods of time throughout the workday.

  • Must follow all safety procedures to avoid burns, cuts, falls etc.

  • Will require bending, lifting, carrying, and pushing heavy items.

  • Subject to working in hot work environments.

  • Required handling of hot food items and light food preparation.

  • Must be able to move at least 25 lbs. unassisted.

  • Physically able to bend, reach and work in small areas. Physically able to push and pull equipment and furnishings.

  • Physically able to stand and work for long periods.
