Position Summary:      

The Director, Career Advising, Career Services designs coaching strategies to engage current students and alumni in an active and accountable process for exploring careers. The Director is responsible for developing the programming strategy in conjunction with Deans, faculty, and the Executive Director and then delegating and overseeing the project management process so that the Associate and Assistant Directors can carry out the programming needs to align with new degree programs and institutional initiatives. The Director will research new discipline specific technology with platforms specific to the fields pursued by the Yeshiva University students. Additionally, the Director works with the Executive Director to propose and formulate long-term strategic plans regarding operations, staffing, budget, program and service development, office and campus-wide events, and campus and external relations.
The ideal candidate is a strategic program administrator who has a background in career advising and human capital management, or a related business field, and of researching, benchmarking, implementing and evaluating department resources creating a synergy across all resources used within the Career Center. The Director will collaborate to bring growth, organization, and implementation of career education to all cohorts of students within Yeshiva University. The successful candidate will be a well-informed visionary leader, a systems thinker with a keen understanding of scaling key objectives, and a gifted collaborator across divisions and departments. The Director will be an inspiring communicator of data and success metrics, who builds results through a clear commitment to diverse and inclusive work environments, while possessing extensive knowledge of emerging trends and issues in higher education and university career services today.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop active coaching strategies, plans, and documents to create accountability and reciprocity between student and career coach including the bench marking and implementation of cloud based platforms for student action plan management
  • Coach students and alumni individually and in groups on issues related to internship and job planning strategies
  • Lead and develop a team to best evaluate skills, interests, values, and experience using professional coaching assessment when necessary as part of the coaching process
  • Create and oversee signature programs designed to increase career opportunities for students and identify and analyze student needs to develop new coaching and seminar programs and services accordingly
  • Develop and implement evaluation surveys to use for program revision and design data collection instruments to gather and compile statistics for evaluative purposes
  • Consult and communicate with other divisions and departments of the University in establishing career activities and in carrying them out while responding to colleagues expeditiously and keeping work plans to track progress and accountability
  • Create and promote career panels and seminars tailored to specific interest groups. Act as liaison between University and employers, on-campus recruiters, parents, prospective students, representatives of other educational institutions, potential funding sources, students, student organizations, and alumni
  • Research, request needed resources, and compile educational information from journals, publications, and government reports/studies to strengthen professional knowledge and attend professional development workshops to improve coaching, leadership, and technical skills
  • Research, target, and contact potential sources of funding; write funding proposals
  • Assist Executive Director in overall operational management of office including formulating and enforcing policies, developing systems and procedures for provision of services, and overseeing maintenance of statistics and preparation of reports as needed
  • Participate in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating associate directors, and professional and support staff
  • Supervise associate directors and assistant directors in the development, management, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services on both campuses
  • Under direction of the Executive Director, develop strategy to connect the Career Center to the University community including deans, advisors, and faculty to discuss employment trends, student concerns, and new programs
  • Represent and speak at University events to encourage University enrollment and student involvement within the Career Center
  • Work towards proposal submissions on career-related topics at professional conferences including NACE, EACE, and MNYCCPOA
  • Attend Yeshiva University alumni events to network with alumni in order to gain their participation in career preparedness programming

Experience & Educational Background:

  • Master's degree in Industrial Organization Psychology, Business Administration, Human Resources, Higher Education or related field and 5-7 years of directing career development, student personnel, human resources, or equivalent experience
  • Experience leading and directing a diverse team of all levels of employees required
  • Demonstrable experience and a high level of knowledge of best practices in researching and implementing technological resources
