AJU’s two schools with degree- programs are the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies (ZSRS), which offers an in-person MA in Rabbinic Studies and ordains Conservative Rabbis; and the Masor School for Jewish Education and Leadership (e.g, the Masor School), which has online early childhood educational programming at the BA, MA, EdD degrees and certificate-levels. AJU also provides undergraduate-level for-credit academic programming to high school-aged students through its Jewish Learning Experience (JLE) program. Guided by its mission statement, the University engages in numerous outreach efforts to both Jewish and secular communities through accessible, community programming that reaches thousands of learners annually.

Position Overview
Reporting to the University President, AJU seeks a Director of Equity, Compliance, and Title IX that is responsible for coordinating and facilitating AJU’s compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Federal Jeanne Clery Act, as well as University Student Conduct, and all associated regulations. This position is central to the strategic goals of deepening and enhancing the campus climate and culture of AJU to create a safe and welcoming environment for the University’s community, which includes in-person and distance
education learners and students, faculty, and staff, in both the University’s for-credit and community programming.

The Director of Equity, Compliance, and Title IX will provide support to the on-campus Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies (ZSRS) and the distance education students of the Masor School, as well as staff, faculty, and administrators. Responsibilities include oversight and coordination of Title IX, Section 504, Student Conduct, and Equal Opportunity investigations, responses and resolutions of complaints, and requires coordinating University-wide staff and student training programs and events relative to discrimination, harassment, relationship violence, sexual misconduct, as well as counseling students and AJU administrators, staff, and faculty on issues in these areas.

This position is expected to work on campus regularly at AJU’s three locations (its Bel Air, Beverly Hills, and Simi Valley locations) as well as in virtual/remote settings. While the job entails working at an AJU location, a portion of the work in supporting the Masor School will be conducted via Zoom/Teams.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the AJU Title IX Coordinator, Section 504 Coordinator, and Student Conduct Liaison - oversees, coordinates, and executes requests, and conducts investigations, when necessary, in accordance with associated regulations.  
  • Provide leadership guidance in analysis, review, creation, and interpretation of university and student policies and procedures and associated regulations concerning Title IX, Section 504, Cleary Act, and university conduct.
  • Maintain compliance with all provisions of the Federal Jeanne Clery Act, including the collection and coordination of AJU’s annual security report.
  • Serve as an on-call support person, actively responding to student crises and issues, as necessary.
  • Liaises with the University's psychological services provider to coordinate services and assist students with related inquiries
  • Ensure equal opportunity access to programs and facilities, and that resources are equitable throughout the University.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update all Title IX, Section 504, Clery Act, and Student Conduct related records in accordance with associated regulations.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update university policies and procedures in compliance with associated regulations, including its maintenance on the AJU website, the student handbook, the academic catalog, and other AJU documents.
  • Under guidance from AJU’s Dean of Institutional Effectiveness, conduct continual benchmarks for improvement through assessment, research of best practices, and critical observations and evaluation of student trends in areas pertaining to the job.
  • Partner and collaborate with campus community including Human Resources, Security, Senior Leadership, Academic Affairs, University Deans, and others.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in higher education, compliance, equal opportunity, student affairs, Title IX or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state laws and regulations, including but not limited VAWA/Campus SaVE Act, Title IX, Title VII, Title VI, ADA, Clery Act, and other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in Title IX and civil rights compliance, complaint resolution, investigation, resolution efforts, and grievance processes.
  • Experience conducting non-discrimination and/or Title IX investigations.
  • Experience in developing and conducting training programs for stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision is critical; this individual must possess the characteristics of initiative, cooperativeness, loyalty, and integrity.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of constituencies including students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, trustees, government and nonprofit officials, and business leaders in a manner that positively portrays AJU and its programs, personnel, and mission.
  • Must be willing and available to travel to visit campuses in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, and Simi Valley, CA.
  • Ability to oversee multiple diverse projects at one time.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving abilities.
