Role Overview


Hillel Montreal is a dynamic pro-Zionist organization whose mission is to support Jewish student life on university and CEGEP campuses across the Greater Montreal Area. The organization’s base of operations is in a central location in downtown Montreal in a newly renovated building. Hillel Montreal is deeply committed to fostering a sense of Jewish pride and belonging so that Jewish students are empowered to be joyful, passionate and resilient while having an enduring relationship with Jewish traditions and Israel.


Hillel Montreal is searching for an energetic, engaging and collaborative Jewish leader to fill the role of Executive Director. As the ideal candidate you are a natural relationship-builder with a passion for community engagement and a track record of successful leadership. You have a deep knowledge of Jewish education and a strong sense of peoplehood. 


In this role you will be:



  • Collaborating and working in close partnership with Federation CJA, other student groups on various campuses, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs and other community organizations

  • Leading, motivating and supporting a team of professionals

  • Developing and cultivating key relationships on campus, including with administration, faculty, and staff campus security, student club leaders and partners, allies

  • Supporting efforts to engage and foster leadership development opportunities for young adults

  • Leading Hillel’s fundraising efforts

  • Working with community leaders representing a broad spectrum of organizations

  • Working collaboratively with a lay committee to fulfill the organization’s mission

  • Attracting and retaining strong, mission aligned students and providing them with the tools to lead and become future leaders in community

  • Strengthening and supporting student club executives across the campuses

  • Growing Hillels to new campuses (including French universities)

  • Responsible for the Fiscal viability of a thriving Hillel


Consideration of exceptional candidates with diverse professional experience may include rabbis, business leaders, Jewish educators, and Jewish professionals.


What You’ll Do


The Ideal Candidate Excels At:



  • Developing and implementing a vision that supports and guides the organization’s mission

  • Fundraising. You must have a solid track record of fundraising (and developing other revenue sources) and be able to develop or foster solid relationships with major donors in the Jewish community

  • Engaging and inspiring others, including students, staff and donors, with an exciting vision to enhance Jewish life on campus

  • Hiring and retaining competent, qualified staff, including through mentorship and professional development opportunities

  • Strong human and fiscal management skills

  • Ensuring that Hillel Montreal remains unified in strong pro-Israel values and Jewish peoplehood while providing a place for collaboration and collegial discussion on issues of importance to Jewish students and the wider community.


Responsibilities Include:



  • Vision, leadership, planning and implementation

  • Financial resource development and management

  • Fiscal management

  • Campus and community relations

  • Supervision and human resources management

  • Governance: Report to and work closely with the lay leaders to seek their involvement in policy decisions, visioning, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization


Education, Knowledge and Skills 



  • A bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of professional work experience, at least 2 in a senior management position with demonstrated responsibilities covering human resources

  • Ability to relate well to university age students both undergraduate and postgraduate

  • Fundraising and financial management

  • Exceptional communication skills, relationship-building skills

  • Strong organizational, administrative and communication skills

  • Previous experience at a Jewish not-for-profit organization is a plus

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage staff and stakeholders with divergent agendas

  • Team-oriented with leadership skills, a strong work ethic, a high degree of integrity and a commitment to transparency

  • Conflict resolution/mediation skills, experience are a bonus


What You’ll Receive:



  • Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $125,000-$175,000 CAD, depending on experience.
