Job Summary:

The Food Service Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the Dining Services Department to provide the residents with the highest quality-dining program. Additionally, the FSD develops, maintains and implements policies and procedures for preparation and service of food as well as supervises food service staff.

Position: Food Service Director

Location: Rivervale, New Jersey

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the development and implementation of all strategies and tactics for the community consistent with Jewish Home Assisted Living objectives.
  2. Develop and implement successful strategies regarding labor, occupant, mix, expenses, and quality of services, and review and redirect activity, if necessary.
  3. Maintain resident's Bill of Rights.
  4. Interview, hire, orient, train, supervise and evaluate subordinate staff.
  5. Constantly assess resident needs in relation to staff needs as a basis for determining priorities in designing an ongoing evaluation program. �
  6. Comply with all aspects of operation, including personnel practices, in accordance with Jewish Home Assisted Living policies and federal, state and local regulations.
  7. Assist in the development of operational budgets and capital requirements, including forecasting and approving all expenses.
  8. Builds a high performing team and keeps morale high.
  9. Meets P&L commitments.
  10. Maintains a safe working and living environment.
  11. Performs scheduled marketing activities, resulting in increased census.

Technical Skills

  • Full knowledge of local and state health and sanitation and safety codes.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in food handling, preparation, cooking, service and operation of all kitchen equipment.
  • Provides direction to staff, promotes shared responsibility in identifying developmental needs and opportunities, creates plans for training to address opportunities, obtains needed resources and follows through to achieve developmental goals
  • Performs budget analysis and control
  • Writes and executes a menu for each season
  • Responsible for dining room set-up and proper table arrangement
  • Maintain high standards of display of food around the community and common areas work with staff to properly describe menus and specials

Education

A Culinary degree and/or Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) is preferred. FSD should have a minimum of 5-7 years cooking in the hospitality field.

Professional Experience

A minimum of 5-7 years food service management preferred.

Glat-Kosher cooking knowledge preferred
