The Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Case Worker will implement the GBV activities and will be responsible for creating an inclusive service and supportive environment whereby LGBTQ identified survivors of violence are welcomed. The GBV Officer works with survivors of GBV, women engage in survival sex, community partners, service providers and local authorities. The GBV Officer will ensure quality services are delivered that meet both ethical and global GBV standards and that the programs evolve to meet changing needs in the Venezuelan crisis.


This position supports HIAS Refugee Rights Framework by supporting forcibly displaced migrants and refugees� rights to be protected from violence and discrimination and the right to recovery from the shock of displacement.

The GBV Officer will report to the GBV Coordinator and will work in coordination with the MHPSS and Protection Officer.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

� Implement GBV programming in Guyana, in close coordination with Protection, MHPSS officer (Counselor) and other colleagues, including culturally appropriate and sensitive activities for vulnerable Venezuelan and non-Venezuelan refugees and migrants, host community and Guyanese returnees. These include, but are not limited to, GBV Case Management, groups tailored to increase peer support and solidarity, and other supportive recreational and/or social activities for vulnerable Venezuelan refugees.

� Contribute to an inclusive community mobilization and outreach strategy to reduce the risks related to GBV with a specific focus on women, adolescent girls, and LGBTQ identified migrants and refugees.

� Contribute to the development of a functioning referral system with service providers in Guyana including governmental institutions, civil society, and partner agencies.

� Support the GBV Coordinator in conducting GBV Safety Audits.

� Establishes standardized case management procedures for GBV activities, including individual and group sessions, in close coordination with the GBV Coordinator.

� Complements the HIAS knowledge base with further mapping through identifying service providers to address GBV needs of individuals and families and liaises with them in collaboration with other HIAS� areas.

� Provides accurate, timely and consistent analysis and reporting to HIAS Guyana PM on program activities.

� Together with the GBV Coordinator plan trainings and capacity building for community mobilizers, leaders and service providers.

� Participate in local GBV working groups to contribute to the development and implementation of the GBV strategy, avoiding duplication and addressing gaps.

� Gather updates regarding changing needs, risks and gaps in protection from the community.

� Perform other duties as required.

� Ensure the following during case management:


� Guide and empower the survivor in the decision-making process in dealing with the incident of violence.


� Provide psychological first aid to survivors.


� Explain the legal, medical and psychosocial care pathways so that the survivor can decide if she or he wishes to access them.


� Request informed consent from the survivor for referrals to other services.


� Make an individual action plan with each survivor.


� Follow up constantly on the actions established in the individual plan.


� Use all the necessary forms according to the Case Management model.


� Continually review the care pathway in coordination GBV coordinator.


� Establish institutional alliances for case management, as well as with institutions that work in GBV prevention/care.


� Support the identification/mapping of service provider organizations in coordination with the GBV officer.


� Apply confidentiality protocols to reflect the limits of case information management.


� Process and share statistical information under confidentiality on cases managed on a monthly basis.


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

� University degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology or related field with at least 3 years of experience in counseling, supporting survivors and/or social work experience.

� Fluency in Spanish and English is required.

� Demonstrated knowledge of ending violence against women and girls specifically and GBV more broadly and the ability to work in a survivor centered manner.

� Familiarity with IASC guidelines on GBV in Emergency Settings.

� Ability to develop work plans, meet deadlines and capture program progress for donor reports.

� Strong motivation to humanitarian work, service-oriented mindset and sense of accountability to the populations HIAS serves.

� Extensive knowledge of group facilitation techniques and experience.

� Demonstrated ability to think creatively and critically.

� Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources.

� Sense of initiative and capacity to work autonomously.

� A minimum 1-3 years� working experience preferably in one of the following sectors: social, charity or NGO.

� Excellent computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams).

� Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

� Must be a team player and able to work with a range of diverse, vulnerable populations; understanding of community-based approach required.

� Ability to uphold the highest level of integrity and confidentiality.
