Reports To:  Director, Center for Jewish Care

Pay Range: $25-$28/hour

Position Overview:

JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Center for Jewish Care team as our Housing Resource Navigator.   This is an exciting opportunity to have a real impact by assisting families in the Jewish community who are experiencing housing insecurity. The position will partner with families & individuals who are interested in working towards housing stability and ultimately long-term self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for families and individuals to support client-driven housing stabilization
  • Understand current housing resources and social service supports in San Diego County
  • Engage in motivational interviewing with families to support their transition to more permanent housing
  • Support individuals to understand and navigate housing tools, including identifying clients’ existing support network as part of a diversionary strategy when ineligible or too long a wait for formal housing programs
  • Help clients understand their rights as tenants
  • Perform quality data entry using ETOi, collect required information from clients. Maintain client information and case documentation in a confidential and professional manner in ETOi with integrity and in line with the quality standard set by Director, JCIS
  • Support clients in gathering and organizing documents needed to secure stable housing
  • Serve as client liaison with other service and funding providers across the County
  • Work to identify and maintain relationships with housing providers, participating in internal and external case management and housing meetings, trainings, and workshops to stay abreast of trends and best practices
  • Identify service gaps/needs and collaborate with others to ensure coordination with the best resources to maximize client success
  • Responsible for approval of Client Financial Assistance for housing
  • Monitor client progress to determine effectiveness of service delivery and to assess progress towards individual goals and objectives

Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in human services field, master's preferred
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a housing case management/resource coordination role
  • Understanding of the low-income population and the concept of trauma informed care
  • Knowledge of housing resources, CES/HMIS experience preferred
  • Demonstrated persistence in finding resources that address the multi-factored impacts of poverty
  • Experience setting limits when working with stressed clients, often in some level of urgency
  • Ability to show an unconditional positive regard for clients who turn to JFS for support
  • Previous training in Motivational Interviewing preferred
  • Ability to work with multiple software systems, including complex case management databases
  • Comfort in providing services to clients in person and in community, as needed
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture and the local Jewish community preferred
  • Desire to work in an integrated team environment
