About the Role
Join the Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation within the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies (SHAPS), a leader in humanities teaching and research in Australia. You will play a pivotal role in advancing cultural materials conservation and shaping the next generation of professionals in the field.

As a Lecturer, you will contribute to the Centre’s research and teaching programs, aligning with its objectives, while engaging in leadership and service activities. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordination and delivery of semester long and intensive post graduate subjects; 
  • Curriculum design and innovation, including cross-disciplinary approaches;
  • Development of technology-based teaching and assessment programs and learning resources;
  • Publications, including (but not limited to) peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, books, creative outputs and commissioned reports; 
  • Active participation in research seminars, and national and international conferences;
  • Research translation and commercialisation opportunities as appropriate;
  • Grant applications and external research income;

Who We Are Looking For
You have a strong interest in the conservation and preservation of cultural material, contribute to postgraduate teaching, and lead research or professional activities, with experience in publishing high-quality outputs.

You will also have:

  • A completed PhD in a relevant discipline and evidence of active research;
  • High quality scholarly activities and professional experience resulting in significant outputs, including funding from national and/or international competitive research bodies, and other sources;
  • Capacity for multidisciplinary and collaborative academic practices that complements the existing research and teaching strengths of the Grimwade Centre 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the learning orientations of a diverse student cohort, combined with the ability to apply this knowledge and understanding to create a highly inclusive student learning environment

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.

The School of Historical and Philosophical Studies (SHAPS) is a part of the Faculty of Arts and comprises of History, Philosophy, History and Philosophy of Science, Classics and Archaeology, The Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation and The Program in Jewish Culture & Society. SHAPS offers a wide range of classes in these disciplines and has an Honours, Masters by Coursework and postgraduate student cohort. This position resides in the Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation and report to the Discipline Chair.
