Schedule: Different shifts available which includes weekends


Reports To: Logistics Support Specialist Lead 


Pay Rate: $21.42/hour

Position Overview:


Jewish Family Service provides robust immigration legal services in addition to humanitarian and respite shelter for asylum seekers who have been released into the United States by the Department of Homeland Security. In partnership with the San Diego Rapid Response Network, JFS continue to provide case management, travel assistance, nutrition services, medical screenings, and financial support for migrant families.


Are you organized? Do you like to plan for efficiency in fast-paced environments? Put your skills to work as a Logistics Specialist! You will collaborate across multiple shelter program areas. Key responsibilities include management of supplies, ensuring that basic needs supplies are provided to shelter guests in a timely fashion, and safely transporting guests to travel hubs/appointments. Most of the work is carried out across shelter locations and travel hubs. This position will require an understanding of complex aspects of the operations and to be able to communicate to staff, volunteers, and guests in a clear and succinct way. They will assist staff/volunteers with providing other supportive services. If you enjoy keeping things on track and working with a variety of people, you will excel in this role!


Responsibilities:



  • Receive and welcome guests at shelter locations

  • Follows prescribed procedures for safe meal and snack service

  • Serves food items to guests, in accordance with specific instructions

  • Ensure shelter guests have all documents required for program exit and onward travel

  • Safely transport and guide shelter guests to/from partner organization, shelter locations, off-site appointments, and travel hubs

  • Organize and distribute inventory as appropriate for operational needs

  • Assist with physical inventory of specific shelter items

  • Report supplies/donations needed for the operation to Logistics Support Specialist Lead

  • Interact with guests to support welcoming environment, and direct questions and requests to the appropriate team member

  • Work in an environment that is fast paced, completing multiple tasks efficiently, safely while meeting stringent timelines

  • Handle requests in a timely and efficient manner

  • Communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with others, verbally and in writing

  • Work within the client database

  • Perform administrative duties in support of an assigned area of responsibility

  • Maintain that guests follow all health and safety protocols including COVID protocols, including cleaning/sanitizing of vehicles and all shelter spaces

  • Maintain a safe and clean space; indoors and outdoors

  • Assist with ensuring guests have sufficient basic needs for their onward travel

  •  Support guests with laundry services when need arises

  • Work closely with volunteers and provide support to shelter volunteers on tasks including preparing and delivering snacks, guiding guests to their onward travel, and supporting with other shelter needs

  •  Complete trainings as required

  •  Maintain a clean and tidy environment at all shelter locations, assist with cleaning and sanitizing the building

  • Assist in implementing infection control protocol as necessary

  • Support at all shelter locations as operationally necessary

  • Participate in required training

  • Performs other duties as assigned 


Skills/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:



  • Good sense of direction, problem solving 

  • Ability to plan logistics for deliveries, pickups, and distributions 

  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects

  • Coordinate, organize and manage multiple tasks in a busy, distracting work setting 

  • Work independently, problem-solve and effectively resolve concerns or complaints 

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, customers, community members, community partners and others contacted in the course of work 

  • Understanding of trauma informed care and ability to implement trauma informed practices  

  • Ability to multitask efficiently and effectively 

  •  Careful and thorough attitude with a good work ethic 

  • Must be able to work effectively with the shelter team and contribute to a supportive team environment

  • Communication, customer service and interpersonal skills 

  • Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing 

  • Outstanding work habits: punctual, reliable, cooperative, team-oriented 

  • Resilient, optimistic, and open to change 

  •  Familiarity with Word, Excel, and Outlook 

  • At least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified


Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have:



  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, Russian, and/or other common shelter language preferred 

  • CPR/First Aid & AED Certification preferred, but not required  


Additional information required Upon Hire:



  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccine and booster

  • Self-attestation of immunizations against communicable diseases (including COVID-19)

  • Valid CA Driver’s License


Physical Demands of the Job:

  • Pulling – Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion 

  • Lifting – Raising Objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position 

  • Grasping – Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm 

  • Hearing – Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication 

  • Repetitive Motion – Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers 

  • The worker is subject to varied environmental conditions. Work activities occur inside and outside 

  • The worker could be subject to extreme cold/heat 

  • The worker is subject to noise. There is enough noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level
