Pay Range: $66,560-$68,000/year

Position Overview:


JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Nutrition team as the Nutrition Operations Manager. In this role, you have the opportunity to use your leadership, logistics, and communication skills to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across San Diego. The Nutrition Operations Manager plays an integral role on the team and supports the entire agency by managing the work of the Food Pantry including the Corner Market, SmartChoice, Warehouse, and Emergency Food programs as well as logistical support for department operations.  This position reports directly to the Director of Nutrition Services and works closely with the Home Delivered Meals Manager, the Assistant Director of Nutrition, and the rest of the Nutrition team.


Responsibilities:



  • Assist in daily operations and success of all Nutrition programs including: The Corner Market, SmartChoice, Community Food Distributions, and EFAP

  • Report directly to the Director of Nutrition Services and maintain open communication on needs, successes, and challenges

  • Oversee engagement of volunteers across all programs within the Nutrition Department

  • Maintain relationships with community partners and vendors (San Diego Food Bank, Feeding San Diego, and outside vendors)

  • Address client concerns, issues, and emergencies with a level of dignity and respect for all clients, staff and volunteers

  • Ensure all program activities have adequate staffing

  • Assist coordinators and/or leads with accurate data collection and ensure timely reporting in agency databases

  • Request support, supplies, and equipment through designated representative or department

  • Ensure proper inventory of Food Pantry, for all distribution sites (Corner Market, SmartChoice, and community distributions)

  • Coordinate with internal programs

  • Resolve staff conflicts and/or recognize when a conflict must be referred to a higher level

  • Resolve client issues and report all issues to the Director

  • Model appropriate behavior, effective communication, and always treat all workers with respect and dignity

  • Seek guidance from supervisor as necessary and appropriate

  • Other projects as assigned 


Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:



  • Must have a valid CA driver's license

  • Prior experience managing employees and staff  

  • Good analytical skills and strong communication (written and verbal) skills including effective listening skills

  • Strong leadership in a team environment

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously

  • Adapt to change, negotiate compromise and tolerate ambiguity

  • Organize work activities, delegate work and directly supervise a diverse work unit, including volunteers and employees

  • Ability to objectively evaluate and appropriately document workers’ performance

  • Competently use computer resources to support work unit

  • Ability to professionally interface and negotiate with external organizations and internal colleagues

  • Strong team building skills

  • Ability to conduct staff meetings and delegate tasks

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously

  • Ability to promote, develop and maintain productive and amicable working relationships with diverse individuals and groups, including peers and supervisors. 

  • Sensitivity in human interactions to diversity and inclusiveness

  • Must be flexible and adaptable in various situations and work settings, including weather conditions, cultures and geographic areas for extended periods of time. 


Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have:



  • Food Handler Certification

  • Experience operating heavy equipment, specifically electric pallet jacks and forklifts

  • Bilingual, English and another non-English language


Physical Requirements:



  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time

  • Position will require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of items 50 pounds or less as well as operating materials handling equipment (forklift, electric and manual pallet jack)
