Position Description
The Department of Medicine at McGill University invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor (Clinical) as a member of the Contract Academic Staff. The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The incumbent will also be the McGill Director of the Division of Medical Biochemistry. The Department seeks a transformational leader who will take a high performing Division to the next level of academic excellence. Applicants are encouraged to simultaneously apply for and be considered for the MUHC Director of the Division of Medical Biochemistry, although this is not required. This position is conditional on the Institution successfully obtaining a Plans d'effectifs médicaux (PEM) in Medical Biochemistry for this position. This position does not confer eligibility for tenure.
The successful candidate will have a clear vision of the evolving nature of Medical Biochemistry, a demonstrated ability to communicate that vision, and the skill to encourage others to share it.

The successful candidate, as McGill Director of the Division of Medical Biochemistry will have a demonstrated record of success in academic performance and leadership and draw on strong interpersonal skills to inspire best practices and innovation. They will foster excellence in teaching, patient care, and research within the Division and will demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in these activities. The incumbent will also promote independent and collaborative research, and fulfill administrative responsibilities at the institutional, university, regional and provincial levels.
The incumbent is a practicing laboratory medicine specialist and is encouraged to maintain a clinical practice at the McGill University Health Centre and/or the Jewish General Hospital and/or St-Mary’s Hospital.
The McGill Division Director will ensure the pursuit of a common academic agenda for McGill Medical Biochemistry at all its sites, including a focus on the following aspects:
1) Education, specifically undergraduate and postgraduate initiatives in Medical Biochemistry;
2) Research, including promoting, supporting, and incentivizing McGill-wide Medical research initiatives;
3) Clinical innovation;
4) Faculty development, mentorship, and wellness; and
5) Cross-cutting advancement initiatives.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Candidates must:
hold an MD degree and must have completed specialty or subspecialty training in Medical Biochemistry;
be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec;
have strong leadership experience; demonstrate internationally-recognized academic accomplishment in Medical Biochemistry research and teaching;
have clinical expertise suited to tertiary hospital settings;
have experience in training students, residents, and fellows in clinical settings;
be fluent in English with a working knowledge of French. Candidates must be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
