Job Summary:

A Postdoctoral Fellow full-time position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Eszter Katalin Vladar in the Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine, University of Colorado School of Medicine. We study the multiciliated cells of the respiratory epithelium – cells with hundreds of tiny, whip-like projections that sweep the airways the airways clear of pathogens, allergens, toxins, and debris. We use transgenic mice and human primary cell culture to understand how multiciliated cells assemble their cilia, how the cilia beat in the correct orientation to clear the airways and how these processes break down in human diseases like cystic fibrosis, asthma, and COPD.

Key Responsibilities\: 

  • Take leading role in projects in the Vladar Lab, carrying out all aspects of the project
  • Work in close association with technicians and graduate students in a supervisory role
  • Present regular research-in-progress lectures within the University
  • Present work at international conferences
  • Contribute to manuscript writing and write postdoctoral fellowship grant applications.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to transgenic mouse colony maintenance
  • Contribute to laboratory compliance with institutional guidelines

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • PhD or MD/PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Computational Biology, or other closely related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience with standard molecular and cellular biology, microscopy, and cell culture techniques 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational, documentation and oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently within the research laboratory
  • Experience in pulmonary biology, epithelial biology, cilia biology
  • Experience with the culture of primary airway epithelial cells or other stem cell models
  • Experience with managing genetic mouse colonies and animal handing
  • Experience and familiarity with confocal/fluorescent microscopy imaging
  • Basic knowledge of bioinformatics data analysis

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$61,008-74,088 

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
