The Public Affairs Officer is responsible for advancing the Federation’s mission by fostering strategic partnerships within and outside the Jewish Community.  The intern will assist with the Public Affairs Officer’s work. The intern should be interested in policy, advocacy, and civic engagement at the local, state, and federal level.  

Requirements

Responsibilities:

•  Assist the Public Affairs Officer in the following: raising the visibility of the Federation and its work with elected and appointed government officials, maximizing government resources available to the community, and working collaboratively with partner organizations to mobilize the community on issues important to the Jewish Community.
•  Help prepare materials for the Federation’s Public Affairs Committee.
•  Assist in identifying, researching, analyzing, and advocating for critical government relations issues affecting the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston and surrounding community. This includes preparation for Jewish Communities Day at The State, scheduled for February 4, 2025 in Austin, Texas.
•  Assist with outreach to foster amicable relationships between the Jewish community and multi-faith partners.
•  Help maintain strong ties with elected officials, religious and civic leaders in our community.
•  Review communications from national Jewish agencies as well as public affairs professionals around the country on relevant issues and bring relevant information to the attention of the Public Affairs Officer.
• Assist with the Jewish Federation’s work on Antisemitism; helping share information and inform the Federations actions and communications about the issues.
• Support our work related to Israel.


Ideal Candidate:
• Working towards a bachelor's degree and has an interest in advocacy or government affairs
• Possess passion for the Jewish Community and for public policy issues.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to support the planning of public events.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Knowledge of Israel politics and current events.
• Strategic and creative thinker
• Works well in a team environment.
