Position Overview
Seeking a dynamic educational leader to serve as School Rabbi at Akiba Yavneh Academy, a Modern Orthodox day school in Dallas, Texas. The ideal candidate will develop an innovative curriculum that integrates traditional Jewish learning with contemporary educational approaches.
Key Responsibilities
Educational
Teach 3 or 4 classes to be determined in consultation with the Head of School;
Serve as a role model and mentor student leaders in their Jewish growth in and out of the classroom;
Tefilah instruction and supervision;
Plan, prepare and deliver dynamic and engaging lessons that facilitate active learning experiences;
Rabbinic
Help establish a culture of ruach/spirit, love of Torah and meaningful Jewish experiences among our students and among key stakeholders;
Answer school related halakhic questions and consult with Rabbi Jeremy Wieder, Rosh Yeshiva, RIETS of Yeshiva University when appropriate;
To serve as the school’s rabbinic leader on campus and as our communal representative on halakhic issues that impact the school and community;
Through education and communal engagement, raise the level of knowledge and comfort for a Modern Orthodox approach to halakhic practice that purposefully casts a wide and welcoming tent;
Engage community rabbinic leaders and take their concerns and suggestions into consideration when appropriate, but faithfully advocate the school’s mission and commitment to halakhic values and practice when necessary;
Work in partnership with the broader Dallas Jewish community to develop and implement a wide range of initiatives that focus on rich Jewish learning, content and practice, including Shabbat and holiday celebrations, community building opportunities and Israel engagement initiatives.
Oversee the religious guidance in the school with an ability to speak with authority on halakhic and hashkafic that impact AYA’s mission.
Administrative
Collaborate with the administrative team on creating schedules, productive faculty meetings and clear and enforceable school policies for faculty and students that are consistent with the AYA’s mission.
Oversee Jewish student life and participate in extracurricular activities such as shabbatons,onegs, sporting activities, school trips, etc.
In partnership with administrative leadership. develop and implement a student recruitment plan designed to increase enrollment from all segments of Dallas’ Jewish community.
Cultivate meaningful relationships with feeder schools and institutions,
Maintain student compliance with school policies enumerated in the student handbook and in partnership with HoS and upper admin team review and revise on an annual basis.
In partnership with the Head of School create a dynamic and educationally sound Judaic scope and sequence and corresponding curriculum.
Provide Israel Guidance for male students to attend religious Zionist yeshivot (Gush,
Hakotel, Maale Gilboa, TVA etc.),
Qualifications:
Semicha from a religious Zionist yeshiva
Academic degree from a reputable university,
Minimum 3 years teaching experience in middle or high school Judaic studies
