Description

Qualifications

Essential Functions

Teach various levels and age groups in accordance with JCA instructional guidelines.

Plan lessons, select appropriate drills, and evaluate the students progress.

Present proper demonstrations and explain skills, analyze and correct performance, minimize fear, and use appropriate teaching devices.

Maintain a safe and positive teaching environment.

Attend all in-service trainings and staff meetings as required.

Maintain accurate records and prepare course completion certificates.

Perform all swimming strokes and skills taught in all levels.

Effectively communicate each students progress either to the student directly, or to the students parents where appropriate.

Project and promote a professional image/appearance; display good personal hygiene.

Explain and enforce facility regulations, policies, and procedures to patrons.

Keep all certifications current.

Keep physically fit to perform the job effectively.

Greet members with a welcoming smile and atmosphere.

Work together as a TEAM with all departments.

Report to manager about broken equipment, burned out lights, areas needing repair.

Attend quarterly safety trainings.

Be knowledgeable and exhibit enthusiasm for all programs and activities offered by the JCA.

Promote JCA services and activities.

Turn in any member items to lost and found at the courtesy desk.

Member Service

Refer members concerns, suggestions, and complaints to aquatics manager immediately.

Consistently offer the highest level of personalized member service while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic, and helpful attitude.

Support staff in the enforcement of all member rules and regulations.

Demonstrate understanding of all points outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Demonstrate awareness of the importance of membership sales and member retention.

Administrative

Adhere to JCA standards for all department operations.

Assist with special projects, events and promotions as needed.

Assist management or any authored personnel requesting assistance with any task related to the JCA.

Education and/or Experience

Swim Instructors must possess current certifications of the following:

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (or equivalent training).

American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer (or equivalent training).

Performance Testing

All Swim Instructors are required to perform the following performance test prior to employment and may be tested at any time throughout their employment. Performance test are as follows:

Demonstrate all swim strokes, including freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, and treading water.

Demonstrate all skills taught in all levels.

Teach a demonstration lesson that displays ability to trach and work positively with children.

Language Skills

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English to members and staff.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to read, write and comprehend the concept of time.

Reasoning Ability

General intelligence & decision-making skills.

Must exhibit a strong interest in working in aquatics.

Excellent human relations, communications, member service skills.

Cooperative and friendly attitude.

Ability to exhibit enthusiasm for the job and the JCA.

Creative thinking, implementation, and promotion of new and existing programs.

Physical Demands

Requires long periods of standing or sitting.

Grasping and gripping movements

Ability to lift 50 lbs. Some lifting may require additional assistance from another staff person. Employee expected to use discretionary judgment and ask for assistance from another employee if an item is perceived to be too heavy to lift without assistance.

Continuous exposure to moderate to loud noise.

Occasional exposure to bodily fluids.

Occasional lifting, pulling, climbing, kneeling, and bending.
