Accounting Manager

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager will play an integral role in the Finance Department of the Federation. This position will be involved with the day-to-day reporting and recording of transactions, reconciliations, and the annual audit, among other things. This position will not immediately supervise other staff but may do so in the future.

This position is full-time and reports to the Managing Director of Finance Operations and Reporting.

Essential Job Functions

1. Record and/or review transactions recorded to the general ledger, including activity related to trusts and investment accounts.

1. Record supporting foundation transactions to the general ledger and prepare monthly reporting.
2. Oversee and facilitate processing of payment of grant payable requests for supporting foundations, endowments, and donor advised funds, working collaboratively with the Development department.
3. Perform quarterly reconciliation of grants payable.
4. Participate in preparation of quarterly internal financial reports.
5. Participate in the annual audit process, including preparation of various workpapers and reconciliations.
6. Maintain knowledge of financial and tax reporting requirements of significance to non-profit organizations.
7. Perform other tasks as assigned. 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

1. Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with internal and external business partners and employees.
2. Strong knowledge of GAAP (nonprofit accounting knowledge preferred).
3. Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
4. Excellent organizational skills.
5. Ability to set priorities and maintain composure under stress. Results oriented.
6. Ability to work well and collaborate with individuals in departments other than Finance.
7. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe. Ability to learn other relevant software systems and databases as needed.

Education, Training and/or Experience:

1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
2. 5-7 years of related professional experience. 
3. Experience using various financial software/accounting systems.
4. CPA license preferred.
