ABOUT THE JCC EAST BAY
The JCC East Bay is a welcoming home for people of all ages and life stages. The JCC’s core programs include early childhood education and preschool; camp and afterschool programs; teen engagement; older adult activities; intergenerational Jewish holiday celebrations; and ongoing opportunities to connect with Jewish life and our richly diverse community. The JCC East Bay operates from four locations: our full-service building in Berkeley, an afterschool program at Joaquin Miller Elementary in Oakland, a brand new TK afterschool program at Hintil Kuu Ca Preschool in Oakland, and administrative offices on our soon to be flagship campus in Oakland.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Afterschool Teacher Aide will report directly to the Afterschool Leadership Team and will be instrumental in the success of the JCC East Bay’s Afterschool Program. The person in this role must be able to create a positive educational climate where students can learn and grow. They will be responsible for preparing and implementing several weekly developmentally-appropriate classes based on their personal passions and skills. They will work throughout the school year, from August until May, up to 35 hours/week including AM care, or up to 25 hours/week for just PM care.

Classroom Management, Student Support, and Developmentally-relevant Learning
  • Supervise children, including planning, preparation, and implementation of developmentally-appropriate programming (both structured and unstructured) for children in kindergarten through fifth grade.
  • Act mindfully and with a strong awareness of children’s needs to safely promote growth and to foster curiosity.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary action when necessary.

General
  • Act as a positive and appropriate role model for children and fellow staff.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness during programming; assist in keeping all afterschool spaces organized and operational.
  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and anti-bias education.

  • Must have experience working with children TK-5th Grade and be able to plan appropriate activities for different age groups.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to organize tasks, and develop and implement plans to efficiently meet organizational goals.
  • Ability to lead a classroom of children.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to be physically active with children.
  • Regular and consistent attendance and ability to work a full shift; must be available Monday through Friday from 1pm-6pm and Wednesdays 12:30pm-6pm.
The salary range for this position starts at $21.01/hour. Excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, vacation, sick pay, and holidays (including Jewish). This position is represented by the Union.
