The JCC East Bay operates from four locations: our full-service building in Berkeley, an afterschool program at Joaquin Miller Elementary in Oakland, a brand new TK afterschool program at Hintil Kuu Ca Preschool in Oakland, and administrative offices on our soon to be flagship campus in Oakland.POSITION SUMMARYThe Afterschool TK Teacher, Kids’ Club will report directly to the Kids’ Club Site Coordinator at either Hintil Kuu Ca Preschool or Joaquin Miller Elementary and will be instrumental in the success of the JCC East Bay’s Afterschool Programs at both sites. Teachers must be able to create a positive educational climate where students can learn and grow. Teachers will be responsible for preparing and implementing several weekly developmentally-appropriate classes based on their personal passions and skills. Afterschool TK Teacher, Kids’ Club will work throughout the school year, from August until May, approximately 20-25 hours per week.Classroom Management, Student Support, and Developmentally-relevant Learning
- Develop lesson plans, evaluations, and activities that incorporate organizational philosophy and overall program vision that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
- Mindful and aware of children’s needs to safely promote growth and foster curiosity.
- Supervise/manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary action when necessary.
- Ability to tutor students on an individual level, in specific subjects as well as general schoolwork.
- Ability to support other staff’s lesson planning; act as point person for collaboration around lesson planning.
General- Act as a positive and appropriate role model for children and fellow staff.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness during programming; assist in keeping all afterschool spaces organized and operational.
- Consistent attendance as an afterschool staff member is required as this role is a critical component in the success of the afterschool program.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have 2+ years of childcare or equivalent experience, working with children TK-5th Grade and be able to plan appropriate activities for different age groups.
- Associates or BA in Early Childhood Education preferred.
- Must have 48 college credits, and 24+ ECE units or equivalent recreation, education, physical education, human services, or social welfare classes.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Strong classroom management and behavior management skills.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Ability to be physically active with children.
- Regular and consistent attendance and ability to work a full shift; must be available Monday through Friday from 1pm-6pm and Wednesdays 12:30pm-6pm.
The salary range for this position starts at $23.29/hour.
