POSITION OVERVIEW
This is a dual role position serving as the Athletics Coordinator and Associate Strength & Conditioning Coach. This staff member provides administrative support to the Athletic Department and Coaching Staff. The Athletic Coordinator position acts as an athletic liaison to the faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, and the greater Milken community. This position reports directly to the Upper School Athletic Director. 

The Associate Strength & Conditioning Coach is a member of the Athletic Department, reporting to the Upper School Athletic Director/Strength & Conditioning Coach. The role is responsible for establishing and maintaining the strength and conditioning program for all sports as assigned. There are three major goals to this position: Improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. The Associate Strength & Conditioning Coach devises training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervises training sessions, evaluates students, and maintains student records. This position is responsible for maintaining the strength and conditioning facility, and for establishing policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the facility. This includes training faculty and staff on proper usage of equipment. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment where value is placed on the skills and passions of the discipline within a larger context of school mission and integrative thinking.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs in-season, off-season, and pre-season for all school-sanctioned athletic programs, all students and faculty & staff in a manner that reflects research-driven practices and our country's Long-Term Athletic & Fitness Development Model.
  • Work in cooperation with the sports medicine and athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.
  • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, and the Athletic Department.
  • Design and implement policies and procedures for the Strength & Conditioning program in accordance with the NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and Guidelines.
  • Develop systems for tracking student attendance and student progress in conjunction with the sport coaches.
  • Annually conduct and review a departmental risk management plan.
  • Determine and reinforce expectations for student conduct that mirror the school's expectations for curricula and extra-curricular activities as stated in Milken's Student Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain the Athletic Department’s website on myMilken. This includes posting team  rosters, revising schedules, posting scores, etc.  
  • Report event scores to myMilken, CIF and SFVPSL.
  • Weekly game confirmations with opponents for MS and US.
  • Complete competition contracts with non-league opponents.
  • Assist with distribution and collection of all uniforms for MS and US.
  • Assist with equipment organization of athletic storage areas.
  • Assist with beginning of season equipment preparation for MS & US coaches.
  • Assist with postseason inventory collection and storage.
  • Assist with venue set ups in coordination with the Operations Department
  • Attend weekly transportation meetings to review all bus and van needs.
  • Assist the Athletic Department with major events. This includes athletic awards banquets, homecoming, senior nights, etc.
  • Supervise the gym at lunchtime.
  • Answer calls and emails directed to the Athletic Department from students and parents that are in conjunction with job description.
  • Compose correspondence as necessary to teams and the community regarding events, event updates, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required.
  • Experience working in an athletic department setting or a high-demand office environment preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information as appropriate, i.e., academic and health records, and personal family information.
  • Strong organizational skills – the ability to balance multiple projects and changing priorities without losing focus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a complex team-oriented environment in order to accomplish department goals and objectives.
  • A willingness to help others in the department and throughout the school as necessary.
  • Maintain a “solution conscious” attitude when faced with challenges.
  • Experience and/or expertise in strength and conditioning programming for high school populations.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach by NSCA.
  • Current First Aid, AED and CPR certifications.
  • Ability to interact positively with student athletes, colleagues, and the public.
  • Strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills.


Normal Hours
Monday - Thursday 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Friday 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM

SALARY RANGE: $70,000-$75,000
