Temple Beth El of Boca Raton, FL is seeking an innovative and dynamic team player to be our Bar/Bat Mitzvah Coordinator for our B'nai Mitzvah program. 

In this role, the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Coordinator  is responsible for educational and logistical components of the Bar & Bat Mitzvah ceremonies as well as  supporting classes and programs.  

In addition, the  Bar/Bat Mitzvah Coordinator will report to the Religious School Director and develop and maintain strong rapport and communication with congregants, tutors, clergy and staff.

SUMMARY  

Lead and implement the educational and logistical components of the Bar & Bat Mitzvah ceremonies and supporting classes and programs. Develop and maintain strong rapport and communication with congregants, tutors, clergy and staff. 

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, which include the following; 

  • Teaches Hebrew Decoding classes to all B’nai Mitzvah students 14 months before their ceremonies.  
  • Creates copy of upcoming B’nai Mitzvahs for the Chronicle.
  • Coordinates B’nai Mitzvah students with tutoring, clergy assistants.
  • Maintains and updates B’nai Mitzvah information database in Shul Cloud and Google docs.
  • Assures families are current in enrollment and payments to progress in B’nai Mitzvah process.
  • Create and maintains forms for tutors to track progress and tutor payment.
  • Manages date setting and changing for families, sends out confirmation letters for dates.
  • Sets up 8-week appointments for families and Director of Youth Education and Engagement, or a tutor.
  • General front desk and teacher support for Religious School during school hours.
  • Assisting Religious School with program logistics and for special programs. 
  • Orders and delivers B’nai Mitzvah supplies when necessary.  
  • Reserves rooms needed for B’nai Mitzvah programming.
  • Coordinate ushering dates for families.
  • Coordinate photographer for B’nai Mitzvah headshots, if needed
  • Provides assistance over the course of the year as needed, including but not limited to numerous projects assigned for Confirmation, Family Education, and Tribal Gatherings, etc. 
  • Completes work on special projects as directed by the Director of Youth Education and Engagement.
  • Help students identify a Mitzvah project that is meaningful to them. Create process for reflection during and after the project. 
  • Assigns tutors to students based on their learning style and personality. 
  • Connect parents to tutors to begin process.
  • Maintain connection with tutors to ensure progress.
  • Liaise between parents and tutors and clergy to keep all stakeholders on the same page and avoid surprises.  

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality. Requires good oral and written communication skills. Representation of the Religious School and institution internally and externally. Will work collaboratively with other administrative staff to foster consistency in message and team work;

  • Excellent calendar management skills;
  • Ability to manage and execute numerous projects simultaneously and ability to follow through independently on tasks and assignments; 
  • Ability to work occasionally on nights and weekends is a requirement; 
  • Completes other tasks job-related duties as may be necessary for the successful operation of the religious school programs as noted by the Director of Youth Education and Engagement. 
  • Excellent problem solving, and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work with and around children in a kind and caring manner;
  • Knowledge of Google Docs, Excel and other Microsoft Office applications; Shul Cloud; some experience preferred;
  • Ability to work within a given budget

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution or any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience working in a religious school or camp desired. Experience teaching/tutoring prayer Hebrew, Torah reading and trope. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with students, parents, members or employees of organization. 

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position may have some supervisory responsibilities.  

TRAVEL

Some travel may be required between TBE campuses and/or at other locations outside of the Temple may be necessary from time-to-time.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at once, and the employee will have to supervise all children at all times. The employee may come into contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff and themselves.
