  GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION                                                                                                                                        

The Business Resource Network or “BRN” is a private-public partnership whose purpose is to assist local businesses with the retention of employees through the provision of support activities to remove barriers to their continued employment.  The Business Resource Navigator will be working with individual employees on a one-on-one basis and is responsible for helping them to identify their barriers and work with them to find a resolution to them.

 QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                                                        

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Education, Business, HR, or other social science field strongly preferred.  

Other:

Certified Career Development Facilitator and/or BSP Certified preferred. Proven ability to provide customer services to disadvantaged individuals. Ability to respond effectively to multiple requests and changing customer flow. Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate with participants, employers, public and staff. Composition and computer skills sufficient to complete reports, letters and data input tasks.  Composition skills sufficient to prepare required reports. Intermediate to advanced level of proficiency using MS Excel, databases both pc and web based.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Assess employee needs to identify barriers and needed supports to assist employee in maintaining employment.
  • Determine employer and customer eligibility for employer related services and programs, including completing eligibility forms and collecting required documents from employees and employers.
  • Advocate for and link customers to community services and assist in assessing available support services.
  • Maintain and provide reports tracking customer information, attendance and activity to ensure necessary services are received in accordance with funding source requirements.                                                                                                                              
  • Build strategic connections with employers and area businesses and agencies to encourage their use of employment related services. Market Michigan Works business related services and partner with Business Relationship Coordinators and the Business Services team.
  • Outreach and recruitment of companies that are having employee retention problems to become a member of the BRN.
  • Attend area networking and business events to build departmental and agency network of participating businesses. 
  • Maintain a regular schedule engagement with BRN member companies.     The Business Resource Navigator will develop a schedule (arranged with the company) to be onsite to meet with employees.  Scheduled may need to be varied to accommodate coverage of all shifts. 
  • Schedule appointments with BRN member company employees to resolve employment issues.
  • Utilize job development techniques and determine necessary solutions to resolve employment issues.
  • Provide continued case management, including maintaining case management files, to confirm success of solutions for sustained employment.
  • Complete all data entry, reporting and documentation requirements in a timely and accurate manner.  Data tracking systems may include OSMIS, Salesforce, and other systems as required.
  • Present workshops on employment topics to job seekers.
  • Participate in district wide job development meetings and initiatives as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental conditions:

  • Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Ability to work in a confined area.
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period. 

Physical requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, reach, stoop, kneel to install computer equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Light to moderate lifting in required.
