The Louis S. Wolk Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester is located alongside the Erie Canal in Brighton and is a 200,000 square foot facility that houses our state-of-the-art fitness, wellness and recreation programming, an aquatics center, a Professional Theatre, Children’s Center and our Premier Camping Program. We pride ourselves on providing our members with quality educational, cultural arts and social programming, and we are an inclusive community center that welcomes people of all faiths, backgrounds, and ages.


We are looking for individuals that love working with children for the part time position of Childcare & PlayGym Attendant.  You will welcome each family and child to the JCC PlayGym and Family Room and ensure a positive experience for children and families. Must be available to work on Saturdays and Sundays.


  • Provide continuous supervision of children as they climb and play in the Play Gym or the Family Room
  • Participate in interactive activities to provide a safe and fun experience
  • Welcome/thank all members and visitors as they arrive and leave
  • Ensure parents are aware of policies, sign-in their children
  • Create a nurturing environment that meets the needs of JCC families
  • Create and lead activities that meet appropriate developmental levels of the children
  • Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child’s family
  • Appropriately communicate with children and provide individual and group attention
  • Implement positive behavior management techniques and safety regulations
  • Maintain the order and cleanliness of all play spaces
  • Report all concerns and incidents to the Family Engagement team

  • Ability to communicate effectively and thoughtfully with a diverse set of individuals including children, parents, and staff
  • Maintain confidentiality and a safe environment for children and families
  • Energetic, dependable, and happy to supervise children at play

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred
  • Minimum of one year’s experience working with children
  • Experience/ability in creating children’s activities, preferred
  • First aid and CPR certification, preferred

  • Frequently required to use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently required to stand, climb, bend, sit on floor and move from sitting on floor to standing quickly
  • Possess the strength, endurance and vigilance required to maintain constant supervision of children in a noisy and busy environment
  • Ability to be active and climb within the PlayGym structure
  • Ambulatory ability to manage uneven ground, steps and gym structures
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Family Room setting includes cozy areas, craft tables, toys and young children and babies
  • PlayGym setting includes climbing structure, rock wall, crafts area
  • Ability to handle emergency situations – think quickly, respond appropriately, assist and comfort children

Pays $15/hour, plus free fitness and aquatics membership to JCC.
