 About Us The St. Louis Jewish Community Center (the J) has been providing excellent health and cultural experiences for the entire community for over 140 years. We are hiring for a Full-TIme Program Assistant in the Adult Day Center at the J.


Summary:

 Through the CNA/Program Assistant position we are offering an exciting opportunity for the selected candidate to join a team of innovative, out-of-the-box thinkers to help establish a new prevocational and employment training program for people with disabilities. This position will play a dual role in contributing to the success of both ADJ day service programs, IN and Connections. The CNA/Program Assistant position will actively contribute to the development and implementation of training curricula, provide direct support, and hands-on skill building activities for young adults and older adults of all developmental and intellectual ability levels. Additionally, this position will directly support young adults with I/DD and older adults with dementia, cognitive and physical impairments attending ADJ each day. ADJ operates from 7:30am to 6pm, Monday – Friday, with some evening and weekend hours required. Applicants should have flexibility to work within our operating schedule. Adult Day at the J is accredited by the State of Missouri and licensed by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.  


Responsibilities:

  • Plan, promote and arrange activity and programming logistics, 
  • Plan, coordinate and support participants during onsite and offsite activities. 
  • Provide direct support to participants of Adult Day, which will involve active participation in a variety of activities including physical exercise, swimming, meal services, and managing personal care matters. 
  • When necessary, utilize JCC company vehicles to transport participants to and from the community.  
  • Assist participants in the restroom and with showers to maintain good personal care. 
  • Assist participants to and from the buses. 
  • Assist the participants with mobility needs, including:  transferring to a wheel chair, standing from a seated position, walking throughout the program areas, etc. 
  • Communicate with Team regarding health and/or behavioral changes when noted. 
  • Complete daily restroom log and monthly charting as assigned. 
  • Greet participants and families daily upon arrival in the morning. 
  • Assist with monitoring name tags and wander guards for scheduled participants and assist in placing on participants.  
  • Assist daily with serving meals and drinks, as well as assist with clean up. 
  • Provide daily dining room coverage while participants are eating lunch. 
  • Run department’s laundry for aprons, towels, dishcloths (wash, dry, fold, put away) Laundry machines are located within the department.  
  • Assist with ordering and stocking supplies from deliveries as needed. 
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to establish goals and plans to obtain goals. 
  • Communicate daily with parents/guardians/participants to discuss progress and address concerns. Ensure supervisor is informed of any concerns and notified of any communications which are sent out, as appropriate. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure maximum participant attendance is achieved daily.  
  • Prepare, review and maintain daily documentation to ensure compliance per all funding source guidelines.   
  • Ensure that individualized goals are recorded, tracked and monitored appropriately for each participant, and annual documentation is current and relevant. 
  • Ensure staff-to-participant ratios are maintained at all times and ensure proper levels of support are provided according to each participant’s needs. Provide guidance to staff and volunteers to enable them to best support the participants. 
  • Attend meetings as required including, weekly staff meetings, regular meetings with supervisor, and other program specific meetings. 
  • Provide quality customer service through prompt and consistent communication. 
  • Collaborate within the JCC to facilitate the most inclusive environment for new and existing programs.  



Requirements

High School diploma or GED is required; related Associates or Bachelor's degree is preferred. 

  • Must have 1+ year(s) of experience working with relative population required; including, individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities and/or the elderly, medically frail and/or people with various cognitive impairments such as dementia. 
  • Working knowledge of medical conditions and diagnoses common among elderly and disabled populations is required. 
  • Prior experience with providing personal care assistance (i.e. toileting, physical transfers, etc.) required. 
  • Experience with development and implementation of individualized and person-centered goals, preferred. 
  • Must have prior experience with planning and leading activities to the population served. 
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral. 
  • Visual and auditory acuity with excellent communication skills to understand and interpret written and oral materials and instructions is required. 
  • Must have advanced computer skills (Database systems and Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint); Demonstrated ability to learn new computer applications is a must. 
  • Must have a teamwork mentality and excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Must be able to assist with the restroom needs of participants. 
  • Physical ability to sit/stand/walk for extended periods, lift 40 pounds, transfer participants (on occasion up to 250 pounds) and assist participants with ambulation and mobility needs. 
  • Must have the visual acuity to monitor participants and focus near and far. 
  • Must maintain current certifications. 

Per our licensure, Adult Day employees are required to become registered with the MO Family Care Safety Registry. Active registration must be maintained for continued employment at our center. American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification, TB testing, and Hepatitis A vaccine are required in this role per licensure. The J provides training/re-certification, testing, and vaccine if employee does not already have. Position is subject to a pre-employment background check and physical (includes drug test).

Salary Description

$16.00-17.50/hr
