POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Athletic Director and the Division Head, the Coach provides leadership and direction to help mold the program while adhering to Milken Community School rules and regulations. The Coach must support the student-athlete concept and demonstrate concern for the health, safety, and welfare of each student-athlete. They must support, encourage, and monitor student-athletes academic progress.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide overall leadership for the Milken Community School program and perform all services thereof as scheduled and/or directed by the Athletic Director.
Coach and instruct players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises.
Work with the Athletic Director to develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
Assess players skills and monitor players during competition and practice.
Determine game strategy to ensure success in competition.
Supervise athletes during practices and competition.
Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
Ride buses with students to all games.
Follow established procedures in the event of an athletes injury.
Responsible for the use, care, storage and inventory of all Milken athletic equipment issued for use by the athletic program including, but not limited to bats, balls and all other equipment necessary for practice and games/matches.
Maintain the equipment room in orderly condition and assume responsibility for its security.
Complete coaching certifications and CPR/First Aid/AED certification regularly as required by NFHS.
Participate in special activities to include coaches meetings and awards presentations.
Perform support tasks such as maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
Adhere to all rules, regulations and policies as mandated by the San Fernando Valley Preparatory League (SFVPSL) and Milken Community School.
Promote the sport with students, alumni, and members of the community.
Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with student programs in a middle school setting.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the specified sports program.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
