BBYO is the leading pluralistic, Jewish teen movement and has been providing exceptional leadership programs and identity enrichment experiences for 100 years. Position Summary:
BBYO is seeking a Controller for our downtown DC office (preferred). The controller will oversee all financial operations and ensure the integrity of financial data and reporting. This role includes managing accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and compliance with federal, state and local regulations. The controller will be responsible for preparing financial statements, managing audits, and supporting the development of organizational budgets. Additionally, the controller will implement and maintain internal controls, supervise the finance team and work closely with the executive directors to provide financial insight and strategies to support the organization's mission. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, nonprofit experience, and a commitment to the organization’s cause. 

Controller will be responsible for the following:

  • Prepare consolidated financial statements
  • Oversee accounting operations- manage day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivables, payroll, and general ledger maintenance
  • Coordinate monthly close
  • Prepare for year-end audits (financial audit, retirement plan audit, and workers compensation audit)
  • Support departmental heads with financial activity
  • Analyze financial data and trends to provide insights and recommendations 
  • Manage internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, including tax filings (e.g., IRS forms, 990)
  • Supervise accounting team members

 

Qualifications:

  • 10-15 years of relevant experience 
  •  Proficiency with Microsoft Excel 
  • Capable of working independently and connecting dots on various work 
  • Comfort with accounting databases 
  • Comfort with Office 365
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Team-oriented, organized, and self-motivated work style
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • Excellent understanding of GAAP and financial standards
  • Excellent financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting and organization

Specifics:

  • Salary Range: $125,000-$135,000
  • Location: DC Preferred, but not mandatory
  • If not in the DC area willing to travel 2x a month
  • Hybrid Schedule if in DC (2+ days/week)
  • Travel: Presidents Day Weekend (International Convention), Staff Conference, Team Meetings and when needed
