What You’ll do

The purpose of the Transportation Mechanic I is to maintain trailer equipment operation by completing inspections, determining preventive maintenance requirements, determining truck deficiencies, and keeping records.

 

  • Ensures equipment availability by completing preventative maintenance schedules and installing component and part upgrades.
  • Complete dry service on equipment including lubrication of components, fluid checks, and inspection of all hoses and belts.
  • Complete wet service on equipment including refilling fluids (engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, windshield fluid, etc.)
  • Inspect, service, and replace trailer parts, including tire checks.
  • Maintain hub and axles and adjust or replace when required.
  • Service and repair the brake, electrical, and hydraulic system.
  • Ensure that equipment meets the U.S. Department of Transportation road safety requirements.
  • Compile inspection reports, document repairs, and report all findings to management.
  • Perform more extensive repairs to equipment with the supervision of an II or III Tech
  • Have a sound understanding of repair tools, equipment, and testing machinery.
  • Ensure housekeeping standards are met within the shop.
  • May be required to cross-train and perform other duties.

Essential Qualities for Success

 

  • Intermediate to advanced mechanical skills encompassing small engine, diesel, and hydraulic systems diagnostics and repairs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
  • Proficiency in navigating and utilizing in-store technology resources, including CRM software, diagnostic programs, barcode scanning systems, and wireless handheld devices.
  • Ability to work independently without frequent supervision.

Physical Requirements  

  • Ability to maintain a seated or standing position for extended durations.
  • Ability to lift, push, and/or pull a minimum of 30 pounds repetitively and 31-50 pounds intermittently.
  • Able to navigate and access all facilities.
  • Skill to effectively communicate verbally with others, both in-person and via electronic devices.
  • Close vision for computer-related activities.
