POSITION OVERVIEW
The 6-8 Division Rabbi plays a vital role in developing Milken as a leading pluralistic community Jewish day school in America. The Division Rabbi works in a highly creative and collaborative environment as part of the Division Head’s Leadership team, the Rabbinic Head’s 6-12 Rabbinic Team, and the Beit Midrash Fellowship Team.
The Division Rabbi integrates Milken’s mission, core values, and Jewish learning into the fabric of the division and the school as a whole. As a partner with the Division Head, the Division Rabbi is a key visible leader on campus who works to cultivate Jewish commitment, create sacred community, and teach Torah formally and experientially to students, faculty, staff, and parents. The Division Rabbi reports to the Division Head. Areas of focus include: Leadership and Jewish Life Programming, Teaching and Integration, Parent and Faculty Education, Pastoral Counseling.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership + Jewish Life Programming
- Serve as part of the Division Leadership Team and offer a Jewish lens regarding vision, policy, and student growth.
- Serve as a member of the 6-12 Rabbinic Team.
- Collaborate closely with the Jewish program director to develop, envision, and administer the annual Jewish calendar, encompassing comprehensive spiritual programming including Tefilah, Oneg, Minyan B'Yachad, holiday events, and student leadership initiatives.
- Create relationships with feeder schools and other stakeholders in the Jewish community.
- Work with 6-8 Leadership Team to create a positive community for faculty and staff.
Teaching and Integration
- Collaborate with the Rabbinic Head, Rabbinic Team, and Instructional Leader to develop and implement the Beit Midrash Fellowship for 8th grade, with plans to expand to 7th grade.
- Teach two or three classes (typically advanced Beit Midrash classes) with its Moot Beit Din competition.
- Integrate Jewish texts, values and ideas into curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular programming (i.e., service field trips, Shabbatonim, retreats, grade-level trips, etc.).
Adult Education (Parents and Faculty)
- Work with new faculty to learn about Jewish life.
- Lead new parent education learning on core values and holidays.
- Facilitate divisional faculty learning on core value themes of the year.
Pastoral Counseling
- Work with Division Dean to develop and implement Teshuvah plans with students as needed following disciplinary actions.
- Provide rabbinical support to community members during times of need.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Rabbinical Degree.
- Demonstrated leadership in a Jewish educational setting.
- Strong and engaging teacher of Jewish texts.
- Possesses a love and empathy for adolescents and teens, and understands best practices of teen programming.
- Jewish role model and educator for our students, parents, and faculty, who is highly committed to the school’s mission, core values, and pluralism.
- Effective communicator and collaborator with parents, administration and faculty.
- Organized, flexible, able to contend with complexity and nuances.
Standard On-Campus Hours
Start: M - F by 7:45 AM
End: M - Th 3:30 PM, F 2:30 PM

SALARY RANGE: $135,000 - $145,000
