Early Childhood Lead Pre-K Teacher

Who Are We:

The New Orleans JCC is a state-of-the-art fitness center and pool, a leader in New Orleans early childhood education, a fun-filled summer day camp, and so much more. It is a place for adults to take an exercise class, an art class, or a dance class. A place for children and teens to experience learning through enrichment classes, sports leagues, family activities, and summer camps. The JCC is built on Jewish values but is welcome to everyone.

The mission of the New Orleans Jewish Community Center is to promote and ensure the well-being of our Jewish community and to instill an understanding of Judaism and its heritage by providing a center where all can enjoy, learn, experience, and share in quality activities in a Jewish environment.

The Lead Teacher is responsible for creating a nurting, positive child-center classroom for our students through planning, supervising, and implementing a stimulating program as a leader in a team effort with an Assistant Educator and in collaboration with the Early Childhood Administrative Team.This person is well versed in child development and brings a love of learning which allows them to introduce children to a supportive, creative Jewish learning environment.

What You'll Do:

  • Plan, supervise, and implement a stimulating program as a leader in a team effort with an Assistant Educator in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Early Childhood Department and the JCC. 
  • Gear the program to the individual needs of each child with special concern for their interests, talents, learning styles, and family dynamics. 
  • Help each child become aware of their role as an integral member of the group and treating them with dignity and respect. 
  • Take responsibility for the ordered arrangement and appearance of a child-centered classroom. Assist in general housekeeping of the classroom. 
  • Communicate daily with families about the children’s experiences, growth and developmental milestones 
  • Observe and record children's behavior during routines and transitions.
  • Complete a formal assessment tool for each child and leading biannual parent/teacher conferences. 
  • Monitor children's indoor/outdoor activities
  • Respond to children's needs in a positive and courteous manner
  • Support and work together with other teachers
  • Follow all school procedures and regulations

Qualifications

What You'll Bring:

  • Undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; or a CDA
  • Maintain current certification in First Aid and Infant/Child CPR
  • Mandatory Reporter Training & Louisiana Dept. of Ed. Training Modules 
  • Louisiana Dept. of Ed Child Care Civil Background Check
  • Minimum of three years teaching Pre-K children under age five; preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be team-oriented, energetic, creative, and nurturing
  • A sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults. It is essential that he/she has the personality and ability to provide warmth, leadership, and stability for program continuity.
  • Basic awareness of Judaism and Jewish cultural norms and traditions

7:30 am-4:30 pm
