The Leffell School is a cutting-edge K-12 Jewish independent school serving over 1,000 students and faculty on two campuses in Westchester County, NY, 30 minutes north of New York City.

The Facility Maintenance Worker will assist with the day-to-day operation of keeping the facility functional and operational. This includes completion of basic repairs, maintaining an organized and safe environment and maintenance of the facility. The Maintenance Worker will also complete projects in all other trades (i.e. plumbing, electrical, painting, construction) and work as it relates to the Operations Department requirements. 

Qualified candidates must be able to work with flexible schedules, evenings and weekends when needed. 

This position will support both campuses. 

Work schedule will be given 2 weeks in advance.


QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of two years of experience performing as a facility maintenance worker or equivalent at a similar organization, in addition to: 

  • Electrical, mechanical and/or construction background or experience is required

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent detail orientation with emphasis on accuracy and quality

  • Ability to prioritize work to balance multiple projects and deadlines

  • Organizational skills

  • Effective and professional communication skills

  • Strong moral and ethical standards

  • Experience dealing with vendors and contractors

  • Must have a valid Driver’s license and a clean driving record

  • Must be able to perform each essential function and responsibility of the job satisfactorily in accordance with school’s productivity and quality requirements 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Ability to work in the evenings and weekends as needed

  • Maintain entire facility in a safe and productive state to ensure the health and safety of all employees and students

  • Direct and inspect facilities for regulatory compliance

  • Assess and monitor facility repairs and establish criteria for repair

  • Plan, develop, and prioritize projects and weekly work plans

  • Ensure that the facilities is in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations

  • Maintain current knowledge in the field of facilities management/maintenance

  • Implement all facility-related policies and procedures

  • Complete daily work orders assigned by the Facilities Maintenance Directors, including repair and maintenance assignments as listed above

  • Recommend purchase of necessary maintenance tools, equipment, and supplies as required to streamline processes and increase efficiency

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Help with the student dismissal process

  • Organize and clean the maintenance shop area

  • Observe all maintenance practices and safety policies. Take all safety precautions for self and others

  • May occasionally be required to use company vehicle to pick up supplies or make deliveries

  • Support the Athletics Department with maintenance-related duties

  • Take attendance of students who register for the 6:30 p.m. late bus and ensure they all safely board the buses

  • Respond to parents calls about the late bus
