Description

Summary:

The Jewish Life Coordinator & Song Leader plays an integral role in Camp: strengthening a culture of music, leading and teaching both Jewish and secular songs/music, contributing to the positive experience of campers and staff members, helping to create the atmosphere of Shabbat and strong Judaics through music, and creatively integrating Jewish values throughout the camp. This role includes leading staff development to help strengthen the Jewish and musical culture of camp. Many of our campers and staff are not Jewish, but we are at our core still very much a Jewish camp. All camp staff must attend mandatory staff orientation on May 28 – June 2.


Responsibilities:

  • Leading weekly Friday afternoon Shabbat song sessions, including blessings.
  • Leading occasional song sessions during morning flagpole.
  • Developing content and assisting specialist staff (art, team building, food, gymnastics, sports, etc.) and counselors integrate Jewish values into daily activities.
  • Modeling and Providing staff training in Jewish value integration.
  • Assisting with general camp staff duties (i.e.: carpool, lunch, parent communication, camper coverage, etc.) as needed.



Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Experience leading groups of people in song.
  • Knowledge of Jewish traditions, values, and ideas.
  • Strong desire to work with youth.
  • Knowledge and ability to lead Shabbat blessings (not full prayer sessions).
  • Ideally several years of experience playing guitar or other musical instrument.
  • Current American Read Cross CPR/First Aid certification is required for certain camps (training provided if necessary).
  • Experience either attending or working in a Jewish summer camp or other Jewish educational environment.
