Manager of Teen Engagement
The Manager of Teen Engagement at Temple Sinai is responsible for planning and implementing various formal and informal Jewish educational experiences for our teen community. These responsibilities include our Jewsday (Tuesday) Night teen programming, our Teen Leadership Council and our Sinai Temple Youth Group (SiTY). This position works in partnership with the Associate Rabbi.
The Manager of Teen Engagement will collaborate with senior staff, lay leaders and youth leadership (Teen Leadership Council - TLC) to develop and implement Temple Sinai’s teen programming vision (below), exploring and piloting new ideas while working to improve current teen programming.
Teen Program Vision: Experiential Jewish learning rooted in Jewish values, healthy social development, leadership exploration, and the creation and celebration of community with Temple Sinai teens.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop personal relationships with teens and families of teens in the Sinai community through personal communication, 1:1 meetings, texts, etc. This includes teens not currently engaged in Jewsday Night, Madrichol, or SiTY programs
- Connect with families who wish to learn about teen programming opportunities at Temple Sinai
- Be in relationship with other teen/youth professionals in the Bay Area to share best practices and learn from other programs
- Communicate the vision and goals of the teen programs to the wider Sinai community including the board and staff
- Work with the Executive Director to determine a program budget for teen programming for 2025-2026 fiscal year.
- Oversee Jewsday night programming, curriculum and implementation
- Create and oversee the yearly calendar - including the weekly schedule and special programs and holiday celebrations
- Provide supervision and oversee the professional development of all teen teaching staff (Jewsday night teachers) including regular communication, feedback, and student and classroom management support
- Ensure positive, regular and consistent communication with teens and families
- Oversee all aspects of overnight programs, including program logistics, program development, staff supervision, publicity, and registration (Including but not limited to L’Taken 2025 – January 30-Feb 2, 2025))
- Create (with the support of Jewsday night staff) additional experiences outside of the classroom (Holiday programming, whole group opportunities both educational and social)
Teen Leadership Council (TLC):

Train the members of the TLC in leadership skills so they may assume primary program planning responsibilities for SiTY events
- Organize and lead monthly council meetings and additional committee meetings and supervision as needed for each event.
- Develop personal relationships with TLC members to support personal growth and leadership development
SiTY:
- Oversee social programming and youth group (SiTY- 9th-12th and Jr. SiTY- 6th-8th) activities for grades 6-12
- Schedule, plan, publicize, and lead SiTY events together with TLC
- Oversee and implement youth programming for Jr. SiTY

Hire and train youth program staff as needed to ensure the safety and supervision of participants in youth events
- Communicate with parents, senior staff and youth group members in timely pre-event mailings, respond to questions regarding events and interactions with members [what is meant by this?], and perform appropriate follow-up to events, etc.
- Facilitate teens’ participation in regional and North American Jewish programs sponsored by the Reform Movement (NFTY) and youth opportunities in the broader Jewish community
- Oversee all aspects of overnight programs, including program logistics, program development, staff supervision, publicity, and registration
Qualifications:
- Has experience in developing, planning and implementing both formal and informal educational programs with youth.
- Has thorough knowledge of Judaism and an interest in life-long Jewish learning.
- Exercises discerning judgment regarding the physical and emotional safety of children and youth.
- Believes in and is committed to the moral development of youth.
- Possesses excellent interpersonal communication skills. Has the ability to communicate sensitively and compassionately with individuals from various backgrounds and a wide range of ages.
- Has a creative and inventive mind, a sense of humor, and is unbound by convention.
- Is an engaging and confident public speaker.
- Is committed to social justice.
- Has good time management skills and is adaptable to change.
- Feels comfortable working within and managing a budget.
- Pays attention to detail.
- Excited about designing creative flyers, videos and publicity materials.
- Has a flexible schedule allowing for evening meetings, weekend youth group events, overnights, and weekend trips.
