Overview of the Role:

Make a meaningful difference each day! The Part-Time Driver Union position will support the PJCC’s Get Up & Go Transportation Service, which provides non-driving seniors with free rides to medical appointments, shopping, and other errands in San Mateo County, as well as to programs at the PJCC. It is an exciting opportunity for a caring, experienced driver who enjoys interacting with older adults. This individual will drive PJCC-owned vehicles which include minivans, minibuses, and transit vans.

 

Hours: Primarily weekdays during regular business hours

20 hours per week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM (hours will shift some weeks, other schedules will be considered)

 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Drives van from the PJCC, on pre-arranged routes in San Mateo County, to and from people's homes and designated pick-up and drop-off points.
  • Determines the most practical driving route & follows a prepared schedule.
  • Arrives at pick-up and drop-off points on time.
  • Provides assistance to disabled passengers into and out of the vehicle.
  • Operate wheelchair ramp and secures passenger’s wheelchair to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchair during trip.
  • Must always be reachable by cell phone during shift.
  • Cleans and services vehicles with fuel, lubricants, and accessories.
  • Follows PJCC and insurance company's protocol on a daily basis and when an accident occurs involving a PJCC vehicle.
  • Able to offer positive and professional service to diverse populations and personalities.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Remain stationary
  • Frequently stand for long periods of time during events
  • Move within your work area
  • Operate a computer and office productivity machinery
  • Communicate across a variety of mediums
  • Frequently transport items up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and six plus months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook or be able to learn this platform quickly
  • California Class B Driver’s License a plus
