Job Summary

The Clinical Assistant provides clinical patient care support in a caring, safe, and efficient manner, under the supervision and delegation of the Registered Nurse. In collaboration with patients and families (as defined by the patient) the Clinical Assistant is responsible for the care of the patient. The Clinical Assistant adheres to and is supportive of the hospital and the department of Nursing mission and philosophy.

Responsibilities

Job responsibilities 

  • Recognizes changes in patient status and reports appropriate information to registered nurse. 
  • Assists with admission, transportation and discharge of patients 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the life span of the patient to include neonatal, infant, pediatric, adult and geriatric. 
  • Assists patient with dressing and undressing 
  • Assists patient with grooming and maintaining proper and clean appearance 
  • Assists patient with elimination/toileting needs 
  • Assists the patient with oral care 
  • Assists patients in transferring, repositioning, alignment and ambulation 
  • Accommodates patient’s needs through responding appropriately to patient’s verbal/nonverbal expressions of needs 
  • Safeguards patient’s property 
  • Keeps patient’s living areas pleasant and orderly 
  • Maintains patient’s self esteem, privacy and confidentiality of personal information. 
  • Provides patients with opportunities for independence and choice consistent with their plan of care. 
  • Assures patient’s rights are protected and that all patients, families, and significant others are made aware of patient’s rights. 
  • Measures body functions and documents care provided to patients 
  • Receives and shares information, observes and reports patients condition and any change of status to registered nurse 
  • Provides Safety, Sitter services for the patient as assigned 
  • Demonstrates and practices appropriate hand hygiene in delivery of patient care 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or GED/ equivalent (required)
    • Individuals between the ages of 16 and 18 may be employed on a temporary basis in positions not prohibited and for hours not to exceed those prescribed by the Department of Labor and the Commonwealth of Kentucky and who are on the path to earning a high school diploma or GED (see Employment of Minors policy)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in healthcare setting
  • State Registered Nurse Aide (SRNA) by the Kentucky Board of Nursing (preferred)
