Strength Through Diversity
Ground breaking science. Advancing medicine. Healing made personal.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The incoming Kathiriya Lab in the Department of Medicine and Department of Cell, Developmental and Regenerative Biology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai University is recruiting a creative and motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to lead a project investigating cellular dynamics underlying aberrant differentiation in the distal lung epithelium. The lab is focused on understanding the core mechanisms of cellular remodeling and failed regeneration during active injury repair in the fibrotic lung. See recent publications (Kathiriya, et al CSC, 2021; Kathiriya et al Nat Cell Bio, 2022; Basil et al Nature, 2022). The position will regularly overlap molecular, cellular, and in vivo biology with computational biology focusing on single cell RNA/DNA/Mitochondrial sequencing. The goal of this project is to understand the regulation of key determinants of aberrant cellular remodeling that underlie failed epithelial regeneration. A second project focuses on determining mechanisms underlying early activation of epithelial stem/progenitors following injury.
About the lab: Our group focuses on understanding dynamics of pre-established and newly discovered epithelial stem/progenitors during homeostasis and injury repair in the context of adult fibrotic lung diseases. We use several in vitro techniques, in vivo models, high resolution microscopy, single cell RNA/DNA/Mitochondrial sequencing to develop new strategies to answer relevant questions. The Kathiriya lab is a member of the Black Family Stem Cell Institute at Mount Sinai, Institute for Airway Science, and Mount Sinai National Jewish Health Respiratory Institute at the Mount Sinai Health System and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Opportunity for career development: Under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Kathiriya, the successful candidate with lead a project involving several distinct techniques allowing a multifaceted technical development. In addition, Dr. Kathiriya will work with each member of the team to create a multi-pronged development plan to suit their career goals and will include support in experimental design and analysis, informal and formal oral presentations of the findings, writing grant applications and manuscripts.
Requirements:
Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degrees with strong interest and some experience in molecular/cellular biology or a related field. Prior experience in the field of lung biology is not required but is a plus.
