Position Summary: Assist the lead/ co-lead teacher in providing and supervising safe activities which promote the emotional, social, intellectual and physical development of children.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist the lead / co-lead (lead) teacher in providing appropriate children's educational experiences with an emphasis on implementing the JCC Jewish curriculum, Creative Curriculum, Heggerty, and Step Up to Quality Standards in the classrooms.

Assume the role of lead teacher in the absence of the lead teacher. Flexible when asked to cover in another classroom as needed.

Greet each child and parent warmly and in a friendly manner each morning upon arrival.

Partners with co-workers and administration to create a positive classroom and work environment.

Assist in providing and supervising activities, which promote the emotional, social, intellectual and physical development of each child.

Work together with teaching the team to maintain a safe and clean classroom environment.

Assist lead teacher as he/she/they document and write assessments on the children in the classroom. Assist lead teacher to maintain communication tools including newsletters, lesson plans, pictures, assessments, daily reports, messages using the Brightwheel app.

Maintain confidentiality of children and families in the JCC ECLC Program

Supervise all activities to always ensure safety of each child, complete incident reports and communicate information to lead teacher, or to director if lead teacher unavailable.

Meet the needs of the children by consistently engaging and meeting each child's individual needs.

Participate actively in activities with the children as outlined in ECLC Handbook, including freeplay, playground, circletime, and specialty classes. "Actively" supervising examples are: Sitting on the floor engaging with them during free play, moving around the area while participating in gross motor play, moving around in the classroom or large motor room are examples of supervising and supporting children based on their needs.

Attending monthly staff meetings.

Attend week of in-service training prior to the start of the school year and additional evening Teacher Trainings as needed.

Attend day and evening Age Group/Curriculum Meetings and All Staff meetings as required by director, JCC H.R. and/or JCC Executive team

Fulfill requirements for Step Up to Quality required of an Assistant Teacher role. Create a Professional Development Plan yearly, complete SUTQ trainings, and enroll in 2 hours of Ohio Approved trainings per year. All other duties as assigned.

 

SCHEDULED SHIFT ASSIGNED TO:

    Full Time - Monday-Friday             am -             pm

Qualifications

Knowledge and Education - Minimum Required or Preferred: High School Diploma (or GED); some post high school education in early childhood development or similar field, or equivalent relevant experience preferred.

Experience - Minimum Required or Preferred: Previous experience working with young children; one year minimum preferred.

Special skills: Sincerely enjoy and value children and their education.

Physical Requirements: Toddlers are very active. To teach toddlers effectively and keep them safe, the teacher must be physically able to keep up with children.

Be able to lift up to 25 pounds: Move a child during an emergency; lift/carry child to quiet area during outbursts.

Be able to run: Reach a child quickly/ protect a child during an emergency; participate in physical play with children to keep them engaged.

Be able to sit on the floor: Toddlers play on the floor. Teachers must be able to interact with children on their level. Because toddlers explore and change activities frequently, teachers must be physically able to get off the floor and sit back down easily.

Stamina: Toddlers move constantly throughout their day. Teachers must be able to maintain the same level of energy throughout the day.

Activities: Able to participate in outdoor and indoor activities.
