Primary Purpose of Position:

The Unit Manager assumes responsibility and accountability for the nursing care of all residents on an assigned unit. Supervises licensed nurses and other nursing personnel in the delivery of care and services according to each resident’s comprehensive resident assessment and plan of care. Manages unit in accord with facility philosophy, in compliance with standards of professional nursing practice, and with all State laws and regulations. Utilizes resources in an efficient and economic manner to ensure that each resident achieves the highest practicable physical, mental and psychosocial well-being.

Job Duties:

 

  • Supervises the care given by all nursing staff on unit.
  • As a member of interdisciplinary team, participates in each resident’s care conference.
  • Participates in admitting and discharging residents from unit in coordination with RN Transitional Care Coordinator.
  • Prepares and delegates assignments to all nursing staff members.
  • Performs assessments and evaluations of residents upon admission and as needed thereafter.
  • Develops initial baseline care plan, updates care plan, or assures that care plan is updated quarterly and as needed.
  • Communicates with physicians, family/responsible party, nursing staff, and other departments as needed to assure quality care.
  • Documents as needed, and assures documentation is completed in a timely manner.
  • Evaluates staff members performance in a timely manner and provides necessary documentation and feedback including performance appraisals and disciplinary actions.
  • Participates in education programs, orientation and general in services as needed.
  • Participation as an active member of the nursing department through committee participation, QA activities and other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Two years professional nursing experience providing direct care in long term care facility with one year supervisory or management experience with direct care staff
  • Specialized training or experience in geriatric care or gerontology (preferred)

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Licenses &Certifications:

  • Current, active license as Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin
