Senior Manager, Social Media & Content Strategy
Root One an Initiative of The Jewish Education Project
New York, NY
Opportunity for Impact
RootOne is an innovative, rapidly growing initiative that maximizes the number of North American teens
participating in immersive Israel travel experiences and maximizes the life-long impact that those experiences
have on the teens themselves. RootOne does so by reducing the cost of participation for teens, and by
elevating and diversifying Israel experiences to make them more accessible and more impactful to a wider
audience of Jewish teens.
We know that intentionally designed and well-facilitated immersive experiences in Israel have the capacity to
strengthen both Jewish identity and connectedness to Israel among participating Jewish teens. Immersive
Israel experiences provide a framework that allows Jewish teens to explore many of the issues that matter most
to them as adolescents and as young Jews. Research shows that outside of Jewish day school (which only a
small percentage of Jewish teens in North America attend), there is no greater impact on a young person’s
Jewish identity formation than an Israel trip with their peers.
At scale, this experience can radically transform the trajectory of North American Jewry. At a time when Jewish
voices on campus need to be heard more than ever, teen Israel experiences are proven to increase the
connections of young Jews to their fellow Jews and to greatly enhance their connection to Israel.
RootOne is powered by The Marcus Foundation and incubated at The Jewish Education Project. Learn more

Position Overview
Are you passionate about creating community, telling compelling stories and driving engagement across new
and existing social media platforms? We’re seeking a dynamic, creative and experienced Senior Manager of
Social Media and Content strategy. You’ll be our lead storyteller and play a critical role in defining our brand
voice and amplifying our messaging across various platforms.
This newly created role is one of both strategy and execution. The primary goals are to expand the diversity of
the audiences we reach and dramatically grow our followership and engagement. To-date, our largest effort has
been on Instagram, but you’ll leverage your deep knowledge of social platforms to decide how and where we
should expand. You’ll be expected to develop a highly sophisticated understanding of our different audiences –
parents, teens, alumni and donors – to ensure that what we say, to whom, when and where is contextually
relevant. You’ll build and manage a calendar that showcases rich forms of content from alumni stories, footage
from our Israel trips, fun tips and tricks, data-driven insights and so much more. You’ll develop our content
strategy and standards in accordance with our brand guidelines and manage exciting campaigns to drive both
awareness of our brand and registrations for our trips.
Reporting to the Senior Managing Director of Marketing & Strategic Growth, you’ll be a leader in the Marketing
and Communications department, who will collaborate closely with other team members to ensure cohesion
across efforts and achieve results greater than what we could each do alone. You will also be a trusted thought
partner who will drive awareness and adoption of best-in-class social management tools and help select and
manage design resources to meet your production timelines. Lastly, RootOne is an inherently collaborative
organization so you can expect to work cross-functionally with many other teams. Our organizational goals are
ambitious, and you will thrive off of working with others to get there.
This role is ideally suited for an entrepreneurially minded, self-starter who values radical candor and
transparency. The ideal candidate will be collaborative in nature and greatly value the input of others but take
great pride in being autonomously accountable for results.
Key Responsibilities
• Build a comprehensive audience strategy to further engage existing audience segments and
significantly broaden our reach,
• Create and manage a robust social media calendar across multiple platforms and be the “keyholder” for
our various platforms,
• Monitor engagement and respond to comments to create thoughtful dialogue and community,
• Build connections with other relevant accounts and influencers to form partnerships, cross-post and
collaborate as relevant,
• Leverage design tools (e.g. Canva) to create designs for evergreen content and work with graphic
designers for bespoke assets,
• Collaborate with other members of the marketing team on integrated campaigns to define strategy and
ensure consistency of messaging,
• Identify and recommend social listening and management tools,
• Track followership growth, engagement rates and other relevant KPIs to inform ongoing work
Experience, Qualifications, and Competencies
• 4-7+ years of social media and community management, in progressively senior roles and with a
proven track record of success,
• Acute knowledge of existing and emerging platforms, with a particular emphasis on cultivating Gen Z
and Gen Alpha audiences,
• Passion and commitment for the mission of RootOne and the values of immersive Israel travel for
teens,
• An energetic and entrepreneurial spirit with good instincts and sound judgement,
• A passion for being part of a collaborative and supportive team,
• Ability to operate autonomously and maintain a high level of accountability,
• Proven experience with relevant tools for social media management, sentiment analysis, CRM, and
graphic design
What We Offer
• Salary in the range of $105,000 to $115,000 commensurate with experience,
• Three weeks paid time off in year one; increasing incrementally on a set schedule,
• Paid family leave,
• Comprehensive health insurance,
• 401k plan,
• Commuter benefits,
• Early close on Fridays for Shabbat and closed for most Jewish holidays, and shortened summer hours,
• A positive work environment with a scrappy, energetic and collaborative team radically transforming the
