POSITION PURPOSE:

The Performing Arts Specialist is an essential member of the Performing Arts Camp Staff. From serving as a member of the production team (director, musical director, or choreographer) to supervising everyday camp activities, the Performing Arts Specialist is responsible for creating a safe and open environment that encourages campers to participate and engage in a wide variety of activities and experiences. The Performing Arts Specialist is responsible for creative content relating to the musical productions produced by the Performing Arts Camp and instructing weekly classes in the performing arts. In addition, the Performing Arts Specialist promotes the acceptance and belonging of all individuals regardless of race, religion, cultural/ethnic background, sexual orientation, gender identity, or socio-economic status.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the supervision of the Performing Arts Unit Director, the Performing Arts Specialist will serve as a member of the production team for the Performing Arts Summer musical productions. The Performing Arts Specialist will participate as a member of the Performing Arts Summer Camp staff for a total of 8 weeks.


More specifically, the Performing Arts Specialist will:

  • Create content in one of the aforementioned areas for a wide range of ages and ability levels (2nd-8th grade).
  • Effectively communicate and teach content to both campers and other staff.
  • Plan and lead arts related activities for multiple groups/multiple content blocks each day.
  • Prepare and organize materials prior to the start of each content block/camp day.
  • Assist in transitions, lunch/snack times, morning/ afternoon carpool, and other times of the day as needed.
  • Supervise small groups of campers (2nd-8th grade) with the assistance of 1-2 other staff members in a wide range of activities.
  • Utilize effective behavior management strategies as necessary.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings/production meetings.
  • Ensure all campers and fellow staff are following rules and guidelines established by the Unit Director.
  • Follow daily and weekly schedules presented by Unit Director.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in the performing arts, either as a student, performer, or educator.
  • One year of college or equivalent training (advanced high school) in specified area of the visual/performing arts.
  • Experience working with children in an educational, camp, or caretaker setting.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively as both an individual and as part of a team.
