Description

Teacher Assistants support a primary or secondary grade level in the classroom, working with students, collaborating with teachers, building curriculum, teaching lessons, and reflecting upon their practice. This position will participate in all activities of the school including weekly grade-level meetings, faculty committees, open houses, parent conferences and professional development opportunities.

A successful candidate for this position will appreciate the art and craft of teaching, embrace challenges, cultivate a rich life outside of school, find deep satisfaction in working with students, possess the emotional acuity and personality to inspire and engage kids, and maintain an excellent sense of humor. Teaching can be difficult work, but it is wildly fun and meaningful. Additionally, this candidate should feel comfortable using technology. We seek a Teacher Assistant who is able to support a lead teacher in planning, organizing and implementing differentiated instructional programs. This person should also effectively collaborate with colleagues. TVT is a highly collaborative environment; grade-level teams work together to plan and implement their lessons. Strong communication skills and the desire to develop partnerships with students and parents are central to the culture at TVT.

This full-time position should be desirable for a candidate who seeks:

  • A culture that balances high academic standards with character development (successful TVT graduates are citizens dedicated to the Jewish value of tikkun olam, or repairing the world).

  • A culture that deeply values student and faculty voice

  • A culture that supports innovation and risk-taking

  • A culture in which educators are encouraged to grow and to explore areas of professional interest (the school sets aside a sizable amount of money for professional development and provides practical support for teachers to develop their pedagogy).

  • Incredible educators who support each other and make work feel like a second home

  • A world-class campus and facilities

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited institution

  • Working toward, or possessing a single or multiple subject credential (or certification if teaching a specialized subject)
