Position:           Tennis Pro

Department:     Health and Fitness  

Status:               Minor Part Time, Non-Exempt, At-Will

Report To:            Sports & Fitness Director

 

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Sports and Fitness Director and as a member of the Health, Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Team, the Tennis Pro at the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center (APJCC) is responsible for successfully implementing member engagement and tennis programming initiatives that align with the core values of the organization.  This position serves as a vital role in engaging and retaining members and facilitating a safe and welcoming environment that inspires members to achieve their health and fitness goals. 

 

All employees of the APJCC are responsible for creating relationships with the members to add value to their membership and enhance their sense of belonging with the APJCC community.

  • Understanding of the fundamental skills tennis with ability to implement an appropriate tennis program for beginner to advanced participants
  • Knowledge of current industry standards and trends in tennis programming

  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with other team members
  • Be a champion for member engagement through relationship building with both staff and members

 

Operational Effectiveness

  • Ability to understand members’ tennis needs based on evaluation process and implement strategies for goal setting
  • Knowledge of USTA and recreational tennis standards and best practices
  • Assist the Sports and Fitness Director in the daily operations of the tennis facility, maintaining the courts in first class condition
  • Functional understanding of ancillary sales and tennis class/lesson pricing
  • Base knowledge to create goal setting plan for members to be successful
  • Enforce APJCC policies including requirement for tennis court reservations
  • Complete payroll in a timely manner. Including: Charging members and completing sessions within the computer system

 

Tennis Orientations

  • Conduct 30-minutes for all new members

 

 

Risk Management

  • Ability to respond appropriately in an emergency situation
  • Ability to recognize and demonstrate safe use of tennis equipment
  • Enforce compliance with all safety regulations among staff and patrons, working to eliminate potential hazards
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

 

Qualifications

Education/Special Licenses

  • CPR/AED certified
  • Minimum of 1 Nationally accredited Tennis Association Certification or Credential

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of  experience in this or a related field

 

Working Conditions

  • Fitness Center/Community Center environment
  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 45 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, properly demonstrate use of tennis equipment
  • Available to work non–traditional business hours – may require evenings and weekend work. 

This position is contingent upon the completion and cleared background check of a fingerprint and life scan assessment.
