Description

Qualifications

1. To ensure the well-being of each child being transported by providing adequate supervision, support, and safe driving skills necessary for their safety.

2. To make sure each child is buckled into a seat belt prior to departure.

3. Maintain van log and maintenance checklist.

4. To focus 100% on driving and safety while vehicle is moving.

5. Be familiar with schedules and routes.

6. Report any issues with vehicle to the Youth Services Director.

7. To communicate professionally and effectively with parents, children, and staff when appropriate.

8. To be punctual and dependable.

9. To attend all required staff and in-service meetings.

10. To meet all applicable requirements by Florida Department of Children and Families and other agencies and authorities.

11. To participate as part of a team in cooperative manner with all co-workers; know your immediate supervisor and respond to their direction in a willing manner; do your fair share.

12. To help enforce Youth Services policies such as sick policies, transportation procedures, kosher policy, etc.

13. Always display a positive and professional attitude towards our program when engaging in conversation with parents, staff, and members outside of our department. Negative concerns should be expressed directly to the Youth Services Director.

14. Reacting to change productively, handling other essential tasks as necessary and general responsibilities of all JCA Staff which may include participation in staff meetings, participation in programs or events as required or other staff team functions.

15. To keep the JCA vehicle safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing.

16. Dress in appropriate JCA attire.

Education and/or Experience

Must have prior driving experience in a work environment in a similar vehicle.

Language Skills

Ability to speak grammatically correct English and comprehensively understand the English language when spoken to at a normal speed.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read, write and comprehend the concept of time.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to use good judgment when driving a vehicle, i.e., when to call about an absent child; when to set limits, when to discuss situations with supervisor, etc.

Other Skills and Abilities

Must be able to follow directions; must be able to relay information to others; must be able to read traffic signs and signals, street signs, memos, notes, and in-service materials; must be able to write using proper language, sentence structure; and must be able to successfully complete CPR, first aid, and other in-service requirements as needed.

Must hold a valid Class C CDL or higher with a passenger endorsement. Driving record will be reviewed prior to hiring. The driving record must be approved by the JCA’s insurance company. Driver is also subject to an initial and then annual physical to ensure that the health of the driver meets the requirements to transport children as determined by the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be physically fit enough to move, stand, lift, bend, push, or pull children up to 50 pounds if necessary. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee may occasionally be required to run. These physical demands are for a period of up to 8 hours per day.

Work Environment

The working conditions are located on a 14 passenger van and/or a 24 passenger bus as well as a one level floor with some steps. The noise level is usually noisy.
